I'm ready to make the transition from being vegetarian to vegan?
I have been a vegetarian for two years now. During that time i have educated myself by reading many vegan how to books and many vegan recipe cook books. I have attempted to become vegan but in the end i always failed. I believe it was because i was still living at home with my parents and attending high school. Now, I am living in my own apartment and starting my first year of college, how can i transition from being vegetarian to being a vegan. I have read all the books and seen all the websites I just want to hear some advice from people who have accomplished this goal. Any advice and information would be greatly appreciated. Thank You.

prior to becoming vegan, i questioned, "would i be able to give up eggs? of course, i make scrambled eggs sometimes, but that's it. i can manage!" then i asked, "would i be able to give up milk? heck yes! we don't even drink milk anymore. we only drink soy, rice, or almond milk." finally, i asked, "would i be able to give up cheese?"
now, this was a toughie. we were a quesadilla-lovin', put-cheese-on-top-of-everythin... kind of family. if we had to omit all animal products but could only keep one, cheese would be the victor. but then i re-evaluated my reasons for becoming a vegetarian in the first place: health, environment, and animal. this stuff was not healthy... it tasted darn good, but definitely not good for the body. it seemed a bit hypocritical also. the cheese was being obtained from the same animals that were going to be butchered later on. it was being obtained from the very animals that i wanted to live a free life. if i continue to eat cheese, i would be supporting this industry in some way. so i gave it up.
almost 3 months later, we are still going strong. i honestly, truly believe there is NOTHING that will make us start eating dairy or egg products again. tempt me with the most delicious, scrumptuous-looking chocolate cake, and i will still politely decline it (i get this all the time from work anyway; i work in a grocery store!) there are bigger, more important things than enjoying those miniscule 10 seconds.
congrats on moving out and starting college, btw. i hope the transition goes well for you!!
best wishes! :)
