Vegan clothes?!

Question:

Vegan clothes?

Well. I have been thinking of becoming a vegan. If you're a vegan, can you wear clothes that you could find in the mall or some place like that,[ Obviosly not buying clothes from the store that are leather and stuff like that.]or does it have to be vegan clothing?

So all I have to do is make sure it's not made of leather or wool, and I'm fine?

Answers:

Actually, most mall/Target/JC Penny's etc. clothing is technically vegan. (Though if you also avoid clothing made in sweatshops or from slave labor, that's a much tricker matter.)

Leather, suede, wool, silk, angora, and fleece are the main animal products in clothing to avoid. Sometimes red clothing is dyed with carmine/cochineal from crushed beetles, but I don't think that's very common since industrial chemical coloring is so much cheaper.

Cotton, polyester, denim, hemp, and vinyl are all vegan. Most t-shirts are cotton, jeans are denim, and much of the rest is polyester. Luckily, these materials tend to be cheaper, too. :)

Just look at the tag, and if you don't know what something is, google it or ask someone. For example, I have a couple of "fleece" jackets that are actually made of polyester according to the tag, not real fleece.
