Firm tofu is better for grilling and stir-frying (won't break apart as easily), and silken tofu is usually found in soupy recipes. But the texture of tofu you decide on is all a matter of personal preference. Whether firm or silken, it doesn't really affect the taste of the recipe as a whole.
