I found a potato yesterday?!

Question:

I found a potato yesterday?

It was hiding right at the back of my cupboard. When I retrieved it I found that it had started to sprout. This vegetable was clearly a living thing, and although it did not outwardly display any signs of anxiety at being caught, what is to say that this living being was not quaking in his little boots. Would I be morally right or wrong to skin this little fella, chop him up and serve him up for dinner. It is obviously a living creature.
Are vegetarians actually worse than omnivores when it comes to cruelty to living things? After all they kill, skin and slice up all that they eat thus committing acts of cruelty directly to their food. At least when an omnivore buys a piece of meat it is already dead.
Incidently the potato is currently enjoying a stay of execution on my window sill pending a decision

Freddy Kruger, You accuse me personally of killing and skinning animals every day. Let me assure you I do not. I have never killed an animal (altho a cat came pretty close to my front tyres this morning) or skinned one.( I did gut a few squid a while back but its hardly every day)
I might do an Ashley and report you

Vegetable Violence is out of control. It was gross of you to even bring up such a disgusting subject.
