Vegan "buffalo wings"?!

Question:

Vegan "buffalo wings"?

I recently went vegetarian, and am going vegan and was wondering if there is a way to re-create buffalo wings in a vegan lifestyle, because I used to love the real thing. Any sites/recipes are appreciated.

Answers:

It is certainly possible to do! At least two restaurants I have been to - Kate's Joint in NYC and Christopher's in Cambridge/Boston serve excellent vegetarian buffalo wings.

You could substitute tofu or store-bought vegan wings in any buffalo wings recipe. It is the sauce that counts! If you use tofu, you might want to play with it a bit to give it the right texture. Try freezing and then thawing extra-firm tofu, and/or frying it first. Both restaurant versions are fried, which means it isn't quite healthy, but it is still vegan!

I've included a link to a high-rated recipe; you would also have to substitute margarine for butter.

Best of luck!
