Just curious...how much is your food bll?!

Question:

Just curious...how much is your food bll?

Whenever I go shopping, the most expensive items are of course the meats. My boyfriend and I are hearty eaters, and average out to $80 or so per week on the food bill.

So I was wondering, for vegetarians AND vegans, about how much is your food bill and what fruit or vegetable do you have that replaces meat as the hearty part of the meal?

Are there vegetables that you avoid? I know there are bad meats that you should avoid large quantities of for health reasons (red meats), but most dietitians and the FDA assumes we do not make our entire diet out of fruits and vegetables, so if there are any unhealthy vegetables or fruits that one should limit there probably wont be much of an announcement of it.

Also, is organic a must? From what I've seen, anything organic is about 150% the cost of any product that is not labled organic.

Answers:

For my boyfriend and I our grocery bill is about $50 per week and about 50% of the stuff we buy is organic. He of course spends extra on his meat but with that exception it is about $50. I replace meats with other protiens such as beans, nuts, legumes, ect. Even the FDA doesn't recommend a lot of meat. In fact it's only recommended that you eat meat no more than twice a week. As far as unhealthy vegetables I have yet to find any but as the saying goes too much of a good thing is bad. For example over doing it on tomatos can drastically change your bodies PH. It takes a lot of them of course. You have to learn to balance out your meals and eat in moderation.
