A question about Peta's ethics?!

Question:

A question about Peta's ethics?

I'm vegan, I've been vegetarian since I was 10 years old. My mother thought it was a "fad" thing I was into and would outgrow. She's seen I haven't. I told her I wanted to join Peta and she kind of frowned and suggested that wouldn't be such a great idea "what with their history, you know..." Well, I don't know.

I am wondering if Peta has done anything illegal or immoral in their effort to bring awareness/end to animal exploitation? And if they have, where does this information come from (please use sources!)??

Thanks for looking.

just to clear the air:

a lot of the post cited sources such as petakillsanimals.com, which is an offshoot of consumerfreedom.com. if you take a minute to look around their website you'll find that not only are they against PETA, but they are also against smoking bans, restricting access to alcoholic beverages, Greenpeace, and the Physicians Committee for Responsible Medicine, just to name a few.

although they claim to be acting in the best interests of consumers, many of the articles i found on their websites are poorly researched opinion pieces. besides which, i don't see a PETA-sponsored website called consumerfreedomlies.com.

i'm all for free speech and freedom of choice. what i'm against is the vicious spread of lies and rumors on either side with the intention of furthering one's own cause.

and yes, i am proud to be a vegetarian and a supporter of PETA, whether or not i agree with everything they do. i don't agree with everything that ANYONE does, but that's what free will is all about, isn't it?
