Veggie Burger brands?!
Veggie Burger brands?
I live in Alberta and am a vegetarian, but I can only find one brand of veggie burgers; Yves. I want to know where I can find Gardenburger, MorningStar, Boca or any of those kind of veggie burger brands.
Answers:
In Fortino's, Loblaws and Great Canadian Superstore, I can find Sol Burgers (a Canadian brand), Gardenburger, and Amy's in the Organic section. In the frozen meat section, they also have their own store-brand Veg Portobello Swiss burgers, which are really good on the grill, and they have various forms of lentil patties. Those are both in the frozen meat section. They also have an Israeli brand called Zoglos, though I haven't tasted the burgers, just the fake chicken which is pretty good. They used to sell Boca, but I haven't seen them there in ages. I've seen these particular brands even in very small towns where there's a Loblaws-operated store.
At Food Basics, Sobey's, Price Choppers and A&P I can get Licks Veggie Burgers frozen. They smell a bit odd when cooking, but taste pretty good. Sometimes you can also get Licks chili and burritos and such in frozen containers, as well.
Unfortunately, I'm pretty sure you don't have Whole Foods in Alberta. When I'm around Toronto, I go there and pick up whatever veg foods I can imagine.
Yves seems to be pretty ubiquitous, but I'm not a fan of their products. There are usually quite a few alternatives in most groceries.
