MR Meat! U r NOT AT ALL NICE! i did also say that i still do it because i love him, for his sake! u retard! plz be nice ot me!!! GOSH! Yes, there are vegetarian dog food formulations and many people do successfully make their dogs vegetarian (and even vegan.) Personally, although I am veg, I don't really believe in forcing that on my dog, but I digress...
If the wet food really grosses you out, you can just not use it. A good quality kibble is a balanced diet for a dog (try Pet Promise, no meat by-products, no factory farmed meat, no antibiotics, steroids, hormones, etc...) Or, continue to give regular (meat based) kibble and add a vegetarian wet food to it. That way, you're not converting him to vegetarianism if you don't feel comfortable with that, but you're not dealing with the nasty, meaty wet food. You're just giving him some variety of texture and flavor. Don't impose your vegetarian ideals on your dog. Dogs are carnivores. They need the protein. Yes, do it for HIS sake --- what crap! You are not thinking of him at all. You have admitted it. You say "it makes ME sick to have to put wet food in there".
So because it makes you sick, you are going to screw up the dog's health. I can't think of anyone more selfish than who would abuse a helpless animal or child to satisfy their own problem.
If I knew where you lived, I'd call Animal Control on you for animal abuse.
I'm not "nice" about animal abusers and those that mistreat their animals. Dogs are ominivores and need a balanced diet. I feel so sorry for your poor dog. SHAME ON YOU!!! Please don't kill your dog! Yes you can make your dog vegetarian. Just make sure it's low in fat (dogs don't digest fat well) and does not contain onions or garlic.
Dogs are carnivores in the wild because they can't get access to prepared, high quality vegetarian food. You don't see a wolf cooking tofu for dinner. But with pet dogs, it's a different story. Thanks to (some) of us humans, they have access to vegetarian food that is nutritionally as good as meat!
Cats, unlike dogs, require taurine, which is not found in any plant. Unfortuntely, there are not many vegetarian dog food choices on the shelves yet. There are many available online. Some dogs do very well on a vegetarian diet, but there are a few that do not. I give my dogs an all natural meat based dry dog food (I think someone else mentioned a brand name on here) that is made locally at a small farm and add a little broth. I started with an all natural organic chicken broth and slowly mixed it with vegetable broth until I was only using vegetable broth. If you need to maintain the softer consistency then let it sit for 10 minutes and absorb some of the broth (or let a 2 year old mix it together and stir it for several minutes telling the poor puppies that she is cooking for them - that's how it works here). Oh dear, you best get the vet in as your dog may not last long with that attitude, your the type of Muppet that would try to convert a lion to eat grass or lettuce.
Seriously for the sake of your pet see a vet and ask for professional advice about making a natural carnivore into a rabbit if it's safe to do so the vet will give you the correct advice.
So it makes you sick to feed your dog correctly WHY did you get a dog, surly a rabbit is better for you, let me guess you get a job at the butchers then complain about handling meat ,,, sad very sad I pity your dog. Sure and with each bag of of vegetarian dog foods, you get a "Do It Yourself" kit to pull those long canine teeth he has in front since he won't be needing them anymore.
Then' he'll be a REAL vegetarian dog! What a lucky dog he is to find you!!! Yeah, you are going to "love him to death"--literally. Just FYI, most veterinarian websites point out that dogs are omnivores while cats are carnivores (despite what other people here are posting). I doubt you can find veggie dog food in the typical stores, generally online. I suppose you could check with Petco or Petsmart as they are the bigger one, in the US anyway.
