Vegetarians and vegans - would you sit on a leather sofa at a friend's house?
I have a leather sofa, and I was wondering if a vegetarian or vegan would be offended by it and refuse to sit on it if they came round. Would you?
Answers: I would sit on it but inside I'd be hating it and, although I'd try to, it would be hard to think of other things while sitting on it. I wouldn't refuse to sit on it because I wouldn't want to make my host feel uncomfortable. I'd probably try and avoid sitting down for as long as I could but then would sit on it in the end if it was unavoidable. I think that refusing to sit on it would make my host feel negatively towards vegans which wouldn't help our cause much so I wouldn't mention anything and just grin and bear it. The important thing is I wouldn't be gaining any enjoyment from it.
If it was a close friend though then I'd ask for another chair but that's only because it would be impossible for me to offend my best friends. I've let them bring meat to my house so they'd understand if I didn't want to sit on leather. very very very good question.. one i had never thought of.. lol most of them wear leather shoes so im sure they would Its better than a pile of rancid cabbages. I wouldn't really like it, but I wouldn't be offended and I would sit on it. Good for you for thinking of that! Yes, I would sit on it.
It's not like I'm going to be rude and say, "No thanks, I'd rather sit on the FLOOR!" Yeah cause I live with my non vegetarian parents and they have leather sofa and chairs and I ain't sitting on the floor! I do wear leather shoes too I'm not sure why I don't think of it in same way I just never have. Maybe it makes me bit of a hypocrit lol. neither. i would not be offended nor would i choose not to sit on the sofa. it was their personal choice to buy a leather sofa. i will show them respect and graciously accept their hospitality. Hi, This is a good question, I never thought of this one before, I bet they havent either. I know a few vegetarians and vegans that have leather sofas, so I wonder what they will say to this one. good question, i would love to know what they'd do. Im sure Vegetarians and vegans only get offended by eating meat... Well most of them i would say..? I would sit on your sofa, but then again I am vegetarian because I dont like the taste of meat so no problem to me Some will, some won't... On the one hand, I will go for the non-leather seat if there's a choice, but if there's no choice, I bite the bullet. I'm trying to give up leather, but not 100% of the way there yet... well i am kind of a vegetarian my mom thinks i don't get anofe(sorry about not spelling that word right) protein from tofu so she makes me eat chicken and fish for some reason i am not offence of a leather couch but i am of a leather coat so yeah but would you really want to be that pour cow who got made into a couch? Vegetarians don't EAT animals. True, they may have other reservations about things like fur or leather, but purely by being a vegetatian...it's all about the diet and nutrition. My mom has leather couches. Yes I sit on them. I did not purchase them. I have to tell you if a Vegan or Vegetarian friend of mine, came to my home and acted like an idiot and sat on the floor, I would find better friends.
Friends don't insult you or your choices unless they are criminal choices. They don't force you to believe as they do, they accpet you for who you are, and that goes both ways, if you go to their home and eat their tofu junk and don't bring a steak with you, they should sit down and shut up when they come to your home and sit on your leather couch. If they do not like it then the floor is always an option!
You do not have a lambswool carpet do you? lol i'm a vegetarian and i would indeed sit on a leather sofa (infact my friend has one and i sit on it pretty much everyday)
i don't have a probelm with leather because it's better to use the whole cow than just eat the meat and waste the rest.
although leather sofas are really annoying - you sit on it then just slip right off again! hehe
you must be a very thoughtful person to take this into consideration :)
x i would still sit on it...better than the floor You could always ask if they mind and ask if they would prefer a dining room chair or kitchen stool. I don't think they would have any objection but it is really thoughtful of you to ask, and to respect other people's beliefs and lifestyle. I don't eat meat at all as I don't see the need, but yes, I do wear leather shoes.
I think your friends are very lucky to have a friend as considerate as you. It's probably their preference to sit on it or not. Me? I'm not a vegitarian, but if I was, I would sit on the couch.
It's MUCH better than sitting on the floor. Good question. One never knows how unpredictable a vegan could be. They may or may not have a scintilla of common sense and make a scene. Well Ive been vegetarian for 15 plus years and my wife and sons are both veggie. I would sit on your sofa no problem, however i wouldn't buy one myself.
If someone is offended by what you chose to have in your own home then they should not be there. Sitting on a leather couch in no way contributes to animal suffering. If they make a big deal about it, they are being pathetic attention whores. Personally I'm not either, though a friend of mine who's a vegan won't even wear leather shoes, so I very much doubt she'd sit on your sofa! lol My dad has leather sofas. When I first went veg and made my first post-veg trip down, I sat on another chair. However, the longer I've been vegan, the more I accept some things. If someone has a leather sofa, I'll deal. If I have to ride in a car with leather seats, I deal. Of course, I would never buy leather anything, but if it's between sitting on a leather sofa and the floor, I'll sit on the sofa. I ask to borrow your phone and then I would call my fellow activist and we would demonstrate in your front yard in order to expose you for what you are.
How would you feel if someone kidnapped one of your family members and skinned them alive and made a couch out of them? How would that make you feel?
I am so mad right now! Myself and friends of mine have pulled countless leather pieces of furniture of the side of the road during collection times.
I wont eat meat by principle but throwing out an entire couch just because its not 'cool' anymore is a load of bullshit, regardless of whether its made from leather or not.
im certainly not going to buy any leather furniture ever.
im also certainly not going to bring a chair or sit on the floor at every house that happens to have leather furniture :/ I would be grossed out by touching a dead animal's skin that had been coated in nasty chemicals to prevent it from rotting, yes.
