You can buy it in health food stores and in alot of mainstream grocery stores too. to my knowledge kefer is a friendly bacteria for the stomach, once you've obtained some kefer (or keifer) you bring some good milk such as, Trader's Point or Organic milk to a boil, then allow it to cool (about 20 minutes) once the curd has formed you may take that off and disgard it, pour the milk into the jar with the kefer, shake well and allow to sit for 3-36 hours or until it has gained the thickness you would like, keeping it warm during this time, once it's reached the tartness or lack of and thickness or lack of refrigertate and Enjoy. When I prepared mine last night I allowed it to sit for just over 3 hours. It's was the consistency of a more liquidy yogurt with not much flavor. I put some kefer in the blender with som Trader Joe's frozen rasberries and strawberries with just a drip of honey! Delicious! Great for breakfast, children, and a yummy snack! [keh-FEER] Originally made from camel`s milk, kefir comes from high in the Caucasus - a 750-mile-long mountain range between the Caspian and Black seas. Today, however, it`s more commonly produced from cow`s milk. It`sa slightly sour brew of fermented milk, most of which contains about 2 1/2 percent alcohol. Kefir is reminiscent in both taste and texture of a liquid yogurt. It`s available in cartons or bottles in health-food stores.
