Vegans especially - what are you all doing for Halloween?!

Question:

Vegans especially - what are you all doing for Halloween?

Any ideas on something I could hand out - there are a lot of trick or treaters on my street - I don't want to contribute to a lifestyle I personally feel is destructive, yet I don't want to feel like to neighborhood freak.

Answers: You could hand out juice boxes. My favorite house on my block when I was a kid, was the woman who gave out juice. About half way through trick or treating I would be getting thirsty and that came in pretty handy.

You may also want to hand out little toys, like the ones sold for arty favors. They are pretty cheap, may be a little more than candy but it would be worth it if you don't want to give out the candy. I'm not sure where your coming from on this. Its not like your gonna be handing out pork chops is it? Just buy the kids some bloody sweets... You might want to check out the link I've provided below. Check the "Snacks" section. It tells you what candies and snacks are vegan, so no worries over what to give for Halloween. ^^

Cheers~ You could make apple sauce cookies and maybe make a cute little vegan label for them. Marie's site had a ton of great options under snacks. I would advise against making anything homemade as parents are very cautious these days.

Here are a few that would be great:
Charms Blow Pops
Dots
Dum Dums
Jolly Ranchers
Now and Laters
Sour Patch Kids
Swedish Fish

All are available individually wrapped or snack size for Halloween! Well if they know you are a vegan, they already know you are the neighborhood freak. So don't make it worse.

YES, things that are commercially wrapped is what parents are to consider safe. Wrapped vegan hard candies are good. One year I gave out quarters. They were a big hit. You might want to scale that down if you get a boatload of kids on your block. animal crackers, it has been well established that vegitarians do eat them. and you can buy them in small multipaks What do you mean? Do you feel like candy is destructive, or only candy that is not vegan?

There's lots of vegan candy.

But if you don't want to give kids candy..how about:
Juice boxes. I love when people hand those out, especially because I used to be so thirsty.
Mini bags of microwave popcorn.
Boxes of raisins?
You could just pass out..TRICKS. Like those little spider rings..or I've seen little halloween books/coloring books. Being vegan does not mean having to miss out on fun. You can hand out little treat bags of stickers, and random little note pads and toys. If you are ok with some candy, you can hand out things like air heads. Oreo cookies (in the U.S.) are usually vegan, and I know they have treat serving of those.

I saw that Target (if you are a Wal Mart shopper, I am sure they have stuff too) had lots of party favors for not a lot of money in 8 packs etc.. This is the time to start looking because a lot of cool things are coming out and on sale. Another great place to look is at party supply stores/outlets.

You could make fun crafts to give to kids, but do not make homemade treats. No matter what, parents will make their kids throw unwrapped food away.

Good luck and I hope you have lots of fun. give em a vegan cook book Toffee apples are a good choice (not always vegan, but alot are),halloween temporary tattoos, single boxes of raisins,popcorn,home-made chocolate rice-crispie cakes(quick, cheap and easy to make !)-and anther thing i do for my kids, is buy loose vegan sweets and wrap them in a little bit of black fabric with a halloween theme painted on it,or black star fabric for instance-tie it up and hey presto ! Or alternatively, pour into a toy cauldron and let 'em take 4 or whatever.Sorry, keep getting other ideas-i just discovered vegan strawberry laces the other day-that'd be a good choice to put in a cauldron and tell them they're worms !!!!! Beef jerky is always a nice treat.
