Are vegetarian diets healthy?!

Question:

Are vegetarian diets healthy?

Answers: pure vegetarian diets are more of a philosophical thing than a health thing. i say this because there are nutrients that greens can't provide, which meats can. that means if you eat veggies only, you miss out on some vitamins and minerals. you can take in supplements and look for substitutes... but you might as well get the real stuff in the long run.
but if you must be on vegan diet, try consulting your doctor or dietitian so you get the most healthful advice. mine is

I'm never ill, no suppliments, i run 3 companies ( one of which is an arable farm so am used to hard work ), constantly busy rebuilding houses/farming/working, no tiedness.......

been veggie for 27 years so its clear there is nothing in meat that we don't get from a variety of fruit, vegetables, nuts, cereals and dairy.. if you do them right, yes. they can be healthy if you still get all the nutrients you need, which is very well possible, and unhealthy if you simply don't. It depends, as long as you get the right amount of all the vitamins and minerals. Since vegetables are not that much source of protein, you can add tofu to your diet.

WARNING: PURE VEGETABLE DIET IS BAD FOR YOUR HEALTH! alot of people will find that they can eat the same amount of food and still loose weight as they are not eating as much fat. you will find that human bodies are not designed to eat as much fat as there is found in meat, this is why alot of people finding themselves to do endless amounts of exercise just to keep the pounds off, while exercise is obviously good for you and everyone should do exercise alot of people struggle with is becuase their body fat is too high, guess whats to blame, MEAT!

heres a site that shows the content of the average of each type of meat's fat and calorie content...

i think this will make the answer obvious.

my personal experience is that i have lost weight, havent been ill since i started and i dont have the mental burden of knowing i killed defenceless animals to fill my belly.

basically you can have a healthy duet either way, but either way you will need to cut down on meat, and i would say it is probably easier to be veggie A vegetarian diet can be as unhealthy or as healthy as one that includes meat. The key word is balance, if your eating vegetarian icecream or eggs for every meal, or nuts that have more than 50% fat then your going to have problems.

A balance diet (even one that includes a little meat) thatis low in fact and has the RIGHT portions of fat, protein and carbohydrates along with minerals and vits is just as healthy a vegetarian one. Hi.
i suppose that not. vegetarian diets are not useful for her health, cos u need different vitamins, which are not consist in vegetables. u must eat meat as well. u must eat fish and others products because they consist a lot useful vitamins as well.
i think , sometimes to have a vegetarian diets is useful but not for long time, for a bit period, cos vegetable have a lot os different vitamins too. it depends on what you eat. the only difference is you substitute the meat for something else. you can get veggie meats which have more nutrients and less calories then actual meat, so its healthier for you in that sense..........

are they healthy? well here is my (vegetarian) intake for today:
crispers, kit kat, hersheys kissables, 3 grilled cheeses and fries(may not be veg tho) and mcchicken sauce from mcdonalds, starbucks frappucino, and white hot chocolate

you tell me that's healthy :P ;) Well for starters your cutting out quite a few things that are bad for you (like the fat you find in meat), but you're keeping things that are good for you, such a vegetables, cereals,...

Plus I would say a lot of vegetarians (not all, mind you) are careful what they eat, and naturally eat more vegetables. Meat-eaters might just have bread and meat for a meal (hamburger), which isn't very healthy. But once again, you can eat meat but be careful what you eat, just like you can be vegetarian and live of chips (so not be so healthy) ;-)

So to sum up: it's easier to have a healthier diet when you're vegetarian I think but you still need to think about what you're eating.

Go vegan! I was vegetarian for quite a while and my health improved tremendously.
You just have to be knowledgeable - or you can become malnourished. You have to be very careful about getting enough protein. I found this on another question. http://www.foodnetwork.com/food/lf_hl_ve...

It sounds like what I am, a Flexitarian Vegetarin and that , is the healthiest diet according to this article and from my personal experience and that of all my friends. AND I don't stress out about being someplace where there isn't food that is ALL vegetegarian or vegan. Plus Flexitarians aren't weird like vegans and vegetarians. if you are smart about it...some veg people eat food that is very bad for you...potato chips and stuff like that
I eat a lot of soy products and tons of veggies and fruit and whole grains...very healthy yep, i have been vegetarian for 5yrs it all depends on how u eat and if u watch ur vitamins and nutrients, jjust like many omnivore diets who are lazy and obese live off of fast foor are not healthy but some meat eaters are healthy
