Vegetarians on the go?!
Vegetarians on the go?
What are some high-protein lunch foods that travel well?
Really, really, really don't tell me I should just eat meat. Go bother someone else.
Answers: whole wheat pasta salad
3 bean salad
hummus and whole wheat pita bread oooooo i'm a veg.
I usaully just pack carrots, nuts, and whole grain bread http://blog.360.yahoo.com/blog-kddfmmywe...
Click on some of these sites in this blog entry and see if there's anything you can use. I've always liked what my Mom called a walking sandwich:
Clean a few stalks of celery. Cut them in finger length pieces. Smear peanut butter, or almond butter in the middle and add craisins or raisins. Some folks call them ants on a log, but you said you didn't eat meat...
Another option is take a baguette and some of those foil wrapped pieces of cheese to eat with it, but I didn't know if you were a vegan.
Last one that travels well, core an apple. Fill the hollow area with peanut butter or cheese whiz cheddar. Any of these things are high protein, yet no meat. Most of them, the celery and the apple anyway, contain a source of moisture. The baguette would really require you to carry a drink.
Enjoy your picnic! Vegs travel much better than meat. Don't have that fear of spoiling or undercooking the food. So----- anything not mushy (papaya and mango is best eaten when no one's around to witness the mess).
Crunchy stuff like carrots and celery.
Cereal - granola, cereal bars, trail mix. Not sure if you're a vegan, if you are, then read the packaged foods carefully.
I like to make salads and pack some olive oil and balsamic. Salad munchies pretty take up the whole lunch hour.
There are frozen veggie dinners out there, like boca products and lunchmeats, but I don't like all the stuff that's in them, the only "fake" meat I eat is the frozen meatballs, as an occasional meal.
Mac and cheese is good, especially home made, it could last many days.
Homemade chili is also very good, there are also a number of canned vegetarian chilis in the market.
Bean burritos are also one of my favorites. who is you. anything you make for dinner can be good cold as leftovers for lunch the next day . . . stir fry, stuffed peppers, pasta, salads, baked potato. or used leftover grilled veggies for a nice sanwich with pesto. i love veggie sandwiches with cheddar, sprouts, avocado and tomato on whole wheat bread. or even a pb&j is a nice treat sometimes. odawlla super protein bars yes there are some good ones mentioned.
- whole wheat bagel with almond/peanut butter. sprinkle on some sunflower seeds ... thats protein packed. Nuts and Seeds G.
