Is the drug klonopin vegan?
I was recently prescribed klonopin and would like to know if there is any way to find out if it was made with animal
derivatives. I know this might seem like a silly question but as a vegan it is really important to me.
Answers: If the medication itself is not made with animal derivatives, there is no telling what kind of animal testing was done before the drug was released on the market. You may be faced with a Hobson's Choice . . .
I understand your wanting to adhere to your vegan diet. Your decision is one of compassion, and I admire it. However, you were prescribed this particular medication out of need. There will be times in the future, as well, when you will be faced with this same choice (e.g., having to take a prescription drug in a gelatin capsule). Your health needs come first, so please factor that in . . .

If you were prescribed Klonopin (clonazepam), and are concerned about whether it contains animal derivatives, you really are on some other planet!
Is your mental stability NOT important to you? Did you see how small the medication is?
Maybe you ought to be prescribed Luvox which is great for Obsessive-Compulsive Disorder---and if you are asking a question like this you likely are OCD. I am notsure if it is made of animal by products but I am certain it has been tested on animals. However, you need to worry about your personal health and medical needs first. While it is commendable that you do all that you can do not participate in the animal industry, one must face the fact that when it comes to one's own health you are responsible for taking care of yourself. I am sure that there are plenty of people who depend upon you everyday that it warrants taking the medication that the Dr. prescribes you. Good luck.
