Where do mono diglycerides, whey and rennett come from?



Answers: Rennet is made from the stomach lining of slaughtered baby cows. It's mostly used to turn milk into cheese. It's obviously not vegetarian.

Whey is the liquid that's left over from making milk into cheese. It shouldn't be considered vegetarian, except in the extremely rare instances where you absolutely know for sure it wasn't separated from milk using rennet.

Mono and diglycerides are made from both animal and vegetable fats. Just like whey you shouldn't consider them to be vegetarian unless you know beyond doubt that they are made from vegetable oils. Source(s):

It's the liquid you get when curdling milk and straining out the solids. Rennet is from calves' stomach linings but now some rennet is made from fungi. Although that 'rennet' is simply referred to as microbial enzyme.
