i know that alot of companies use fake leather in some products (e.g. shoes, belts...) because its cheaper. when i am buying shoes or belts is there any way for me to tell if it is real or fake leather?

Answers: Leather smells like "leather"...
plastics and vinyls or "pleather"
smell like plastic.
Go to your local Walmart and test your sniffer...
Smell the jackets, shoes, belts, purses and wallets.
Check the label to see if your guess was right.
Hope this helps you out.. Source(s):
If you don't to sniff...Just read the label.
Labels will tell you what materials the
products is made from or of. smell it. Taste it.

Or read the lable. By the smell - you can fake the feel and the texture, but you can't fake the smell real leather. The smell

The price - if it is cheap it ain't real

the label - sometimes people will lie and say it is real when it is fake, nobody is going to claim it is fake leather when in fact it is real. If the label says it is fake you can be certain it is. The best way is to smell it. Leather has a strong smell that fake leather hasn't got.

Go vegan! To be on the safe side watch them kill the cow. You don't want to get ripped off with some knock off pleather. Definitely the smell.
