Skinny B****, The Book?!
Skinny B****, The Book?
Hi, i have 3 friends that have read skinny b!itch, the book and are now doing what they can to become vegans. I have never read the book and i am not knocking down vegans whatsoever, but what i want to know is this?
Do real vegans eat things u can by in the store that taste like meat? for example, my friend was eating a fake rib sandwich because he didnt want to eat the real thing. I asked if he didnt want to eat meat anymore, then why is he eating something that should taste like it?
Also i believe he drove to the store in his car with leather interior, LOL. Could this be a phase? Additional Details

To me im sure there intent is good but i know that one of my friends drives a car with leather interior, that was not a joke, and my other friend had TONS of imported makeup brushes made from sable, goat, and other animals. If they didnt want to hurt animals why not get ride of there worldly goods? again i am not attacking anyone and i have been trying to give up dairy forever, i gave up meat years ago i just think this might be a phase there going through, cause its the "in" thing to do

I agree with the second post, too, sorry for the typos!! :) No, it's not a phase. It's a permanent organic brain disorder. It only gets worse. I am not a vegan, but to answer you underlying question of why eat something that tastes like meat, if you don't want to eat meat.
Simple, your friends are not giving up meat b/c it tastes bad, they are giving it up because they don't want to kill animals. Ya, eat the fake meat because you like the taste, and no cows are harmed in the process.
Add - as for the leather seats in the car, was the car bought new? after going after, if yes, then I would wonder why. But if the car was bought before going vegan, then there really was no point in throwing it out afterwards (not going to bring back the cow) likewise buying a 10 year old car with leather seats does not create a market for leather. It is, in my own personal opinion, okay to eat a healthy vegan diet without being anal about it (i.e. leather, honey, etc.!)
To choose to eat healthy does not have to take over your life in all other aspects, unless you wish it to. Well, i think if they became vegan after reading the book, i dont know anything about the book but with the word skinny i would just assume its a diet book. Not eating meat or anything from animals makes you more healthy so if it tastes like meat but really isnt, thats okay and if its for health and not animal rights then i dont think leather interior has anything to do with it. yes, i've read that book. i have it. i love it :o)
keep in mind that people go vegetarian or vegan for so many different reasons..each person has their own. some people don't give it up because they think it has a nasty taste but they do it for animal rights/anti animal-cruelty and also for a healthier option they turn to soy/tofu "mock meats"..compare the labels/nutritional info in a beef burger and a soy burger..the difference is HUGE. they are more natural made out of soybeans/tofu/etc and soooo much less fat/calories/cholesterol-free/... sodium..more nutrients/iron/etc.. plus an animal doesn't have to die in order for you to enjoy eating a heart-attack in a bun for lunch...so it's a win win situation in eating "mock meats". so leave your friend alone, he is doing the right thing. ^.^. xoxoxox Yes, real vegans sometimes eat meat replacements. We don't want to eat meat anymore for a variety of reasons, all of which do not apply to fake meats (no animals are harmed for it, it doesn't have all the saturated fat and cholesterol real meat has, it's not pumped full of hormones, etc.)
And if your friend just recently became vegan, you might want to give him a little slack when it comes to getting rid of the leather he owned before the switch. It's one thing to go buy a few new pair of pleather shoes, but not everyone can afford to replace their car!
