Eat out Options for Vegetarian in US?!
Eat out Options for Vegetarian in US?
I am an Indian and looking for Veg options in US. I am aware of following Veg items in different fast food restaurant chains in US.
1. McD - French Fries only
2. Burger King- BK Veggie Burger
3. Taco bell: Nacho Cheese Chalupa with no meat :)
4. Subway - Veggie Delite
if you have tried any other restaurants which serves Veg food, please let me know. The only condition is, it should be filling (not like McD double cheese burger with no meat. They will give you Bun with cheese and lettuce, tomato).
Please share anything good which I can have as lunch/dinner :).
I am bored with same Veg options at same restaurants :(
Thanks. Additional Details

I am not hard core veggie.. I eat eggs. As long as there is "no meat", I am ok. At burger kings that have the veggie burgers, you could probably sub the veggie burger pattie for the chicken they usually use on the salads. Just make sure you avoid the one that has bacon on it. Mc Donalds has salads as well.
Taco Bell has a bean and cheese burrito. I think their beans are made with vegetable fat instead of animal fat. If that's the case, you have quite a few options there. Bean and cheese or bean and rice burrito with hot sauce, salsa or pico de gallo.
You don't say where you are travelling, but certain parts of the US are easier to find veggie foods than others. If you eat dairy and eggs it's much easier than if you don't. Pizza/Italian places are going to have a lot of options. Fettucine alfredo is a cream and cheese sauce over pasta. Pizza can be ordered with a huge number of options. Chinese Thai or Japanese places usually have quite a selection of veg options. Chinese stir fries, places that have mongolian barbeque, where you pick what you want from a selection of veggies, noodes and you can skip the meat. Thailand is a country with a large Buddhist population, so the Thai resturants usually have some good options there as well. ANd Japanese, veggie sushi(thinly sliced veggies wrapped in rice) tempura veggies, miso soup, green tea ice cream, very easy to put a meal together in a good Japanese place.
You don't just have to go to fast food places, they aren't healthy. If it's the money thing, then try to go to a grocery store with a good deli and get some things there. Good bread, some cheese and fruit, some good olives, carrot salad, cole slaw, egg salad, a can of beans that can be mashed up for a bean spread for sandwiches is always good. Most of the hotels I have stayed in the states have a small fridge. You can always specify that when you reserve your room. Packages of nuts and granola, energy bars, dried fruit, I'd try to get some of those when you get here to hold you if you get stuck somewhere with no veggie options.
Good luck.... Okay, first there are some corrections.
1. McD's fries are NOT vegetarian. They have beef fat.
2. McD's cheeseburgers (double or not) have meat in them. The only difference between that and a regular burger is the addition of cheese.
3. Taco Bell has quite a few veggie options.
4. Almost all pizza places have a vegetarian selection.
5. Try happycow.net for a list of veggie restaurants so you don't have to depend on fast food all the time. Any Chinese restaurant will substitute Tofu(bean curd) for chicken, beef or pork. Of the places you listed only one of them sells food -- subway. The rest sell crap that is not fit for human consumption. Panera Bread has a few vegetarian choices:
If you eat cheese-Portobello & Mozzarella Panini sandwich, Mediterranean Veggie Sandwich, two different Crispani, and salads.
No Cheese: Low-Fat Vegetarian Black Bean soup 4 days a week, Low Fat Vegetarian Garden vegetable soup served 3 days.
At Boston Market: macaroni & cheese, the steamed vegetables, and fruit salad.
Moe's Southwest Grill has Vegetarian burritto, taco, and Quesadillas, and quacamole. you can order a veggie sandwich at MD..same as a #3 but with no meat!.......good..God bless The fries at McDonald's are not vegetarian. They are made with beef fat.
I have found happycow.net to be indespensible when it comes to finding veg restaurants. I've used it for around where I live as well as whenever I go on vacations. They list them according to region and I've eaten at some amazing places I would have never found without that site. And a great thing especially about finding a completely veg restaurant is you don't have to worry about your food being handled with hands that have meat on them or being cooked on the same surface as meat or in the same oil, etc. . .and you're not supporting an industry you're trying to avoid. I hope you find something you like. :) You act like we only have "Fast Food" in the U.S.A. Not true there are also amny great Indian resturants here too. As well as many chains & private own places that will suit a veggie.
To eat healthy during your visit don't do much fast food if you can help it. be wary of your chain restaurants as well...their vegetable soups are most often made with beef broth (go figure) also, a lot of places use lard(!) to cook their vegetables.
stay home. at least then you know for sure what you're putting in your body. Well..I would not really call those places restaurants LOL
The closest thing that is actually food is the Veggie Delite. Most restaurants will cater to a vegetarian and most have a few options.
