Veggie Dogs?!
Veggie Dogs?
I'd like ideas about the best brands to get and the best way to cook them.
Answers: Before I became a vegetarian I was definitely a hot dog lover, so needless to say once I did become vegetarian I tried almost every brand imaginable before I found a couple that I actually liked. My favorite brand is Morning Star and a close second would be Yves Good Dogs. They seem to have the best texture if I brush them with oil and bake them on a cookie sheet for about 10-15 minutes (occasionally turning them ) at about 350 degrees. I have tried boiling them, but the texture isn't the best. Of course, they are always great if you throw them on a grill.
Kim at: http://www.peaceful-organic-planet.com/h... I like Morningstar Farms the best. The smart dogs are OK but they have a spongier texture. I add a little oil in a pan and cook them that way or I put them on the grill. I have not had great success with the ones labeled hotdogs but I really like the veggie path, jalapeno chedder meatless gourmet saugage. (veggie, not vegan) Morningstar makes hot dogs I haven't had much luck with these... I've tried "Smart dogs" and "Not dogs" and I thought they were horrible! I couldn't eat them!! BUT, Morningstar has corndogs that are AWESOME!! Those I really like! :) My personal favorite is the morning star brand. And the best way to cook them, and again this is a personal opinion, is on the grill. If they're grilled it helps make it less obvious while you're eating it that its not an actual hotdog and gets rid of the soy taste that many dont like. If you can get them Tivoli do fantastic ones! For those in the UK tesco and sainsbury's own brands are the same. Really yummy!
