Honest Question to Those Who Don't Eat Meat?!

Question:

Honest Question to Those Who Don't Eat Meat?

I already know I'm gonna catch it for this, but this is for those who don't respect the rights of others to eat meat. Now let me make something clear I have nothing against vegetarians, my sister in law in a vegan, but my brother and the kids aren't. She fully accepts that she can't change his mind or anyone else's about meat and has no issue eating at the family BBQs which are just about EVERY holiday.

What I want to know is why the 'EXTREME' veg heads seem to think that if they yell loud enough, protest long enough and attempt to gross out and shock the rest of us they will finally win us over? You don't want to eat meat? Fine. I do so back off. My family is from the south so I have seen more than my fair share of animals killed and fish cleaned, its gross but I am still the first one in the line to get food.

The reason I put this up because today I got into a nice lil argument with a vegetarian and managed to get the upper hand when I asked her to give me one reason why I shouldn't eat meat that she hadn't gotten off the PETA website or newsletter.

And yes Jackie I do know how animal as killed in Slaughterhouses and down on the farm. As I said I have seen it happen and it hasn't changed my mind. I know animals have feelings and so forth, guess what the domesticated farm animal was domesticated for the purpose of meat with out the need to hunt.

We did to dogs, cats, horses, and birds for the purpose of pets, work animals and something pretty to look at, but the fact that we did it to animals for food to make our lives easier is supposed to be wrong and cruel??

We did to dogs, cats, horses, and birds for the purpose of pets, work animals and something pretty to look at, but the fact that we did it to animals for food to make our lives easier is supposed to be wrong and cruel?? Well, I'm vegan. Having said that, my experience with other vegans and vegetarians has shown me that most of them are pretty egocentric and look to criticize almost anything about society. Vegetarians have no right to say what others ought to eat, buy, or do. Let's all be honest with ourselves, all people either directly or indirectly kill animals... it's a necessary part of one species living. I think that the only thing that is wrong with people eating anything is that much of our food and livestock is produced by unsustainable means and we exploit our resources. That, and the fact that we should all take a little more time to think about just how many different things had to happen to our food before it got to our plates. Why does any group think that if they, in your words, yell loud enough, protest long enough and attempt to gross out and shock the rest of us they will finally, win everyone over? I don't know any vegetarians who condemn others for eating meat. I doubt most do, so why do you care? Sorry this is not an answer but I just wanted to say I agree! Amen! LOL. Why is it that vegetarians still make a tofu turkey that still looks like a dead turkey carcass for Thanksgiving? To be honest, its not about grosing you out, its just a tactic. As a society, we eat TOO MUCH MEAT. Its true. I really dont mind that people eat meat, i did. Its just that those animals have just as much aright to be here as you do. But when we kill animals, we dont care, but when people kill people its looked down on in society, is that fair, i think not. The animals dont have a voice, and we do our best to be that voice, but if everyone sees us as a bunch of tree hugging hippies and dosent listen, then yea, your probably gonna think that. Meat = Protein = Mass.

Meat is good! There is even a verse in the bible that shows it is okay:

Genesis 1:26:
And God said, Let us make man in our image, after our likeness: and let them have dominion over the fish of the sea, and over the fowl of the air, and over the cattle, and over all the earth, and over every creeping thing that creepeth
upon the earth.

It isn't murder, it's what God intended. well do you actually know how animals are killed at slughter houses?
they are hung by their legs and get their thoughts cut wheile theit still alive. and tehy are left to hang there and bleed to death
if slughter houses had glass walls we would all be vegetarians.
and next time you eat meat just think tht you are chewing on a chunk or cow(or what ever your eating) and that your ripping away at its muscles
i think thats sick. You're going to get extremist in any group. There are meat eaters that constantly chastise vegetarians too. Just ignore them and do your own thing. It's your body. I agree with you. I don't eat a lot of meat because I don't really like the taste of meat, I only eat meat when there is a lot of sause or spices on it, but I do believe that animals were put on this earth for food. Okay well I'm vegetarian and to be honest I so agree with you! Although I don't agree with eating meat I still believe everyone has the right to choose, and I don't think any less of people who eat meat than people who are vegetarian. I may not agree with you but I still respect your opinion! But to answer your question I know some vegetarians who do try to convince people to stop eating meat. I think they do it because some people are just very opinionated, and I guess they feel like if people hear them out, they will seriously stop eating meat. I think the best way to deal with this situation is to talk to people who do this to you and tell them that although you respect their opinion, it isn't your thing to be a vegetarian. Maybe then they will try to stop convincing you. I hope this answer helps! =) The vegans and vegetarians that "think that if they yell loud enough, protest long enough and attempt to gross out and shock the rest of us they will finally win us over" are not the majority. I know plenty of vegetarians and vegans, like myself, that are perfectly able to sit with others while they eat meat and we do not. While I may find it disgusting to watch my boyfriend naw on some ribs, I am not going to tell him to not do it in front of me. I made the choice to not eat meat, and that is my choice. He made the choice to eat meat, and that is his choice. I do not agree with the hardcore vegans and vegetarians that attempt to basically force submission out of meat eaters, but I also do not agree with meat eaters judging me and trying to cram meat down my throat.

Up until about 4 years ago, I ate chicken and beef (other meats I did not like). For college I had to do a research project on animal cruelty in the meat industry and fur farming. It completely opened my eyes. Since then, I have not eaten meat simply for the fact that innocent undeserving animals had to suffer for it. People say "well that is what they are for. for humans to eat". And I do agree. Meat is an important part of the human diet. But when cows, pigs, chickens, lambs etc are bred and raised soley for meat, and crammed in tiny little cages so small that they can't even turn around or stand up, that is a problem. When these animals go through the assembly line and suffer because they aren't killed quick and painless, that is a problem. It is cruel to bring life into this world and then have that life filled with pain, suffering, anguish, and hurt. The problem with your assumption is that you consider it a battle of wills. You assume it is your right to eat meat. I could care less about your health. I care about the animals you eat. If you were to eat my friends, I would protest. How can I sit by and say "it's your choice to eat my friends, so I'll shut up"? I don't know anyone like that. I've only seen that in movies. I would eat meat if I could help myself about thinking about the animal. Well, it's also the texture. I'm very picky, sorry not my fault.. Why are you against man slaughter? Not because you want to impose your life style or whatever on others, but because you are thinking about the innocent victim, right? Well it's the same here: I'm against people eating meat because I'm against murder.

Go vegan! They don't understand the food chain. If the cavemen refused to eat meat, we wouldn't be here to debate it. I'm vegetarian and I agree to a certain extent. I don't want to listen to preachy people even if I already agree with them. They are just annoying. If I paid for a lecture, fine, but no free lectures, please. If somebody wants to impress me with his ideals; he will have to prove he is willing to live it 200% and die for it.

I recall a guy who said he was vegetarian. He started this long dull lecture about unpaired electrons in racid cooking oil how people shouldn't eat that. Later he admitted he ate meat if somebody offered it to him because he "didn't want to offend his host." I felt like punching him in the nose--what an annoying person to be so damn preachy but not really have any convictions. Thankfully, I never saw him again.

I would love to see everyone turn vegetarian, but I don't see how I am going to talk anyone into that if he or she doesn't already have some interest. People are more likely to be turned off.

But please note, there are lot of people who come on this forum for the sole purpose of harrassing vegetarians. As far as I know, the vegetarians don't go on the hunting forum and harrass the hunters. (I hope I'm not giving anyone any ideas.) You don't have a right to eat meat. You have the privilege. Just don't confuse a right with a privilege, mmmk?

Confronting people on their meat-eating habits doesn't usually work. Living by example is what changes their minds. I'll answer your question with another question. Why do SOOOO many meat eaters do nearly the exact same thing to me and others as soon as they find out we're vegetarians?

Other than a few types of meat which I think are innately cruel by the way which they are farmed (such as locking up a baby calf for the 6 or so weeks of it's miserable life in a crate), I have no problem with people eating meat. I did it for the first 18 years of my life, and though a few in my family are veg, most of them still eat it. I just chose to stop. So why do I get the same kind of flack that you were getting from your co-worker?

People on both ends of that spectrum are just jackasses, I guess. No one has a right to eat meat, they just do it. People do have a right to do what they need to survive. If that means killing an animal in the wild to avoid starvation, there is nothing that anyone can say about that.

The way that animals are raised today is an abomination and it comes in many forms. http://meat.org

If there was another species on Earth that was stronger and smarter than us and they loved the way that we tasted, would they have a "right" to eat you, or would you have a right to life and freedom from unnecessary suffering.

I do not care if you eat meat. If you want to support cruelty, that is your choice. People eat meat around me everyday and I have nothing to say about it and we all treat each other with respect. I cannot change your mind or anyone else's and I would never even try. Anyone that tries to convince people to become vegetarian when they didn't actually ask to hear anything on the subject, it just decreases the chances of that person thinking of it positively than if they just acted like a normal person and only told people that they are veg if they really needed to.

Crazy people that never shut up about it have not done any research on how to spread their message effectively and just do more harm than good. What you just posted is hardly a question but YOU came here and this is what I have to say about the things that you have said. People should be allowed to do whatever they want IF AND ONLY IF their actions harm no one else. Vegans and vegetarians consider animals, sentient beings, SOMEONE ELSE.

Different lifestyles should be given equal respect only if those lifestyles are EQUAL.

So sorry, but if I know someone's buying something is going to contribute money to people who torture animals, or what they're going to eat contains blood, pus, sh*t, and steroids, I'll be damned if I'm not going to tell them.

BTW, they probably use demonstrations, protests, and information sessions because they know civil disobedience is the only thing that has EVER changed our country. I have been a vegetarian for 15 years. My husband and three children are not. I believe that everyone makes their own choices in life. Yes, i believe that it is wrong to eat meat...but each to their own. I'm not going to tell everyone else how to live their lives.

I am, however, sick and tired of meat eaters telling me how wrong I am. I can only assume that it's out of guilt. I constantly have people telling me about the 'circle of life', and how 'eating vegetables is murder too', etc. etc. I honestly can't understand how someone would want me to eat meat....i'm not hurting anyone by being a vegetarian!
