Question for Vegans?!

Question:

Question for Vegans?

Just wondering why you chose to be a vegan. I love milk and could never give it up.

Answers: Animal cruelty reasons:
Nature designed cows to lactate in conjunction with giving birth and their milk is perfectly designed for baby calves, for whom it is intended. Dairy cows are repeatedly artificially inseminated to keep them producing and their offspring are removed within 24 hours of birth so they don't drink down the profits. Cows in large factory dairy operations have been bred to have oversized udders and are mechanically milked; they often have chronic mastitis due to the conditions in which they are kept (which might not concern you if you like a little tasty pus in your milk.) The physical stress of this endless cycle of pregnancy and lactation means a cow, who would normally live as long as 20 years, is worn out after 5 or 6 years and is sent to slaughter for cheap beef. Male calves have no value to a dairy operation so they are sold for veal. The dairy industry contributes directly to animal suffering.

Laying hens are crammed into tiny cages with half a dozen other layers, each with about the space of a sheet of printer paper. It's not enough to spread their wings and chicken routinely break their legs due to the crowding or have their feet grow painfully deformed from the wire of the cages. Chickens are debeaked with a hot knife and no anesthetic so that they don't peck each other to death from the stress of the conditions they are kept in. Male chicks have no value to a laying operation so they are discarded by the thousands to starve or suffocate. The egg industry contributes directly to animal suffering.

Health reasons:
Cows milk is designed for baby calves, who double their birth weight in the first 47 days of life and grow eventually to half a ton. It loaded with saturated fat and cholesterol, not to mention laced with antibiotics, hormones, steroids, and pesticides. There is really no redeeming nutritional value for humans. Calcium? Consumption of excess protein, especially animal protein, leaches calcium from the bones, so while that glass of milk has calcium in it, it's not the "perfect" source of calcium that the dairy industry would have us believe. I can get my calcium elsewhere without all the fat and foreign chemicals.

There's more, but I don't want to write you a novel. I once thought I couldn't give up cheese, but then I started reading ("The Food Revolution" by John Robbins, for example) and go to the point where I could no longer identify a good reason NOT to go vegan. i just became a vegetarian today. i became a vegetarian for health reasons, no im NOT allergic to anything. anyways i dont eat: dairy, fish, eggs, and meat. in my opinion it was a good and healthier choice. well i am not one but my friend is and he said that the cows didn't give you permission to touch there utters and that if you eat eggs you are killing a baby chicken One of many reasons to not drink cow's milk.

The milk produced by cows is for baby cows! Why are adult humans drinking the baby food made for cows? Think about it for a few minutes and I promise you will be grossed out!

Seriously if you need milk made by a mammal you should go find a nursing human mother and ask her for a glass - that makes more sense than drinking cow milk. Drink organic milk. Don't beleive all you hear. meat eggs and milk can have a good place in a healthy diet. Find a drug free butcher(free range) eat smaller amounts( who said you need to eat 1/4 pound). eggs are great but poultry in the stores(eggs too) have too many hormones and the animals live horrible lives. Did you know a bowl of salad takes 5 bath tubs to grow! many inported vegatables come from places who need the water desperately but because of privitzation(sp?) the people are doing with out so that the farmers(and exporters) makes $$. don't buy anything that has been imported food wise eating local is way healthier. Milk is so icky :/ I loved meat just like you love milk, but I decided that just for the sake of my taste buds, I wasn't about to put my own 'wants' in front of the poor mistreated animals needs. texaspice9, I took your advice and thought about it, and all it did was make me want to get a glass of milk, thanks, maybe I'll have some cookies with it. i don't like meat, i like animals BBBOOORRRING - question asked 1000 times a month! http://meat.org
http://www.veganoutreach.org/whyvegan... I am a vegetarian leaning toward veganism. For me it is the health benefits. Vegans have very low cholesterol, and that is something very important to me since I have a family history filled with heart disease.

I don't preach about being a vegan. It's all about personal choice and personal responsibility.

Do whatever lets you sleep at night. 1. Eating blood, pus, and sh*t is gross.
2. Eating meat and dairy products is very unhealthy.
3. The animals are treated horrifically.
4. I'm not going to die obese at the ripe old age of 45 with acne and diabetes.
