tried the brown bag idea - didn't work... Many of the peaches this year in the South taste that way. Several reasons include the cold snap that wiped out most of the crop, but my guess is the draught has just limited the sweetness produced. As you said, they could be on the "green" side, so cut 'em up, add some Fruit Fresh and sugar, let sit overnight and enjoy the next day. It just means its not sweet lol Yes.
The ones I buy from the market, I still put in a sunny window for a few days; that seems to help.
When I had my own peach tree, I waited till they were falling off. Grocers can't do that.
Miss that little tree. :) Flat and really dry? They're probably out of season. Peaches and nectarines are summer fruit, when they are sold out of season, they need to be shipped from places where they are in season.........which means they need to be picked before ripening to ensure they make it to market before rotting.
Personally, I'd rather wait till they're back in season. Picked too early. The sugars must start developing in a fruit before it is harvested. Otherwise they will not further ripen after harvest. Try putting them in a brown bag for 2 or 3 days first before you eat them. It helps to ripen them.
