Thinking of going vegetarian...?!

Question:

Thinking of going vegetarian...?

Well I am strongly against animals abuse and want to go vegetarian but I have been eating meat my whole life (I'm 10). And plus vegetarians are healthier and it probably wouldn't hurt to lose a few pounds. So how can I easily go from meat-eater to a vegetarian easily? Don't tell me to eat umm meatless meat because it's nasty. Soo..yeah.

And don't say i'm too young because I know I probably am but I just want to go vegetarian. I guess I'll eat some meat every now and then because my body needs it. So just tell me how I can easily go vegetarian. kthnx.

And don't say i'm too young because I know I probably am but I just want to go vegetarian. I guess I'll eat some meat every now and then because my body needs it. So just tell me how I can easily go vegetarian. kthnx. The best advice I can give is to start out slowly. Maybe pick one or two days a week where you don't eat meat, and gradually work up to not eating it at all. You will crave meat, especially since you've been eating it your whole life, but that will pass as your body detoxifies. Make sure you eat lots of fruits and veggies, and keep your belly full so that when you do get the cravings, you aren't actually hungry enough to act upon them. And I agree about the meatless meat, though there are other alternatives out there. When you go to the grocery store, check out their health food section, and give some of the items a shot. Tempeh is good stuff, and tofu is easy to get used to. Before long, you won't be able to believe that you actually used to eat meat. I go through that sometimes. But good for you, making a decision that will cause you to live longer and be healthier, will have less of an impact on the environment, and will be cruelty-free to the animals. You should be proud of yourself.

Oh, and Christelle...look into those "special farms." I actually wouldn't have as big an issue with eating animals if they were indeed wild, but factory farming is one of the most cruel industries on the planet. Look it up, and it may just change your mind. i'm veggie and i think i'm pretty healthy. and i luv tofu now!!! but maybe you should wait until you're a bit older to go. and plan what your going to eat, too. i cook everything at my house now and sometimes it's hard to get variations from pastas. Most animals that you eat are from special farms were the animal is breed just to be eaten. You do not eat wild cows or chickens, so don't woory. There is no need to going vege. Good Luck. it's not animal abuse.....

....have you ever heard of survival?????? Vegetarians rule.
Better health, better body, better everything, trust me. try this website, it made me go vegetarian a few months ago. when you get to it, click on the video on the left hand side under Resources that's called "Meat Your Meat":
http://www.goveg.com/

since you dont like meat substitutes, i recommend you eat a lot of beans and nuts to get the protein that you need. and try tofu.
good luck! Just don't eat meat. Consider other options like eating a cheese sandwich instead of meat and cheese, but have the same fixings on it. I don't really eat that much meat. I just eat veggies and fruits and breads etc. You don't have to eat fake meat. - s at 10 you have made a good decision it seems but hold to it .I was like you but I do eat both very often when on travels.May be because i am too choosy- the veg i like and the meat not available there. To be only on one -veg - is not in my calendar. dont...

i was a veggie for 1 yr.. and unless you are gonna researdh ways on still getting enough protien... dont.. i had little protien.. and all the color in my skin went away, my period stopped, i was 95 pounds (i was 14), and i was miserable..!!! So unless you dont plan on not getting any protien i wouldnt do it

and you cant all of a suuden start eating meant again like you said you would... cuz when you do you barf!! (it happened to me)...... and you are to young hun... you are still growing... and meant helps that... no matter how much you like it or not

i'm still against animal cruelty, so iget meant where i know the animal wasnt torchered....

well hope that helped well, im not saying that what u think is wrong becuase im totaly on your side, but i pretty sure that at age ten, it is not healthy to become a vegatarian, but only becuase when you are so young you need meat and protien, or when your older you might become weak, and that isnt so good, i would say you could maybe eat LOTS AND LOTS of soy protien, and then maybe you could be a vegatarian at the age of ten. but i would say that the best thing to do is wait until you are about 19 or so, i know its a VERY long time, but idk im strongly against animal abuse too. do what you think is right. You are too young to be on Y!A.
Read the rules.......you are supposed to be 13 here.

PETA= people eating tasty animals

GOD gave them to us to eat....do you really want to offend him? Hey its not abuse...they are bred to be consumed..if that's your key reason to go vegetarian you might want to think again..yes there are some positive aspects to it but you seem to perplexed so take some time to think this all through before ya walk that path. Don't rush recklessly into it.. DONT DO IT!!!!!!!!!!!!! Vegetarian cuisine refers to food that meets vegetarian standards by excluding meat and animal tissue products. For lacto-ovo vegetarianism (the most common type of vegetarianism in the Western world), dairy products such as eggs, milk, and cheese are permitted. The strictest form of vegetarianism is veganism, which excludes all animal products, including dairy products as well as honey, and even some refined sugars if filtered and whitened with bone char.

Talk with your parents and doctor. Make sure they are alright with this choice you have made.

Make some Hindu friends. Hindus are vegetarian (because they believe animals are reincarnations of people who have died). I don't advise that you follow their religion, because I believe Jesus to be the one true savior. However, if you are needing some tips on vegetarian lifestyle, Hindus are the ones who are vegetarians from birth.

Go to some websites that feature vegetarian recipes and tips for younger people. I would think PETA would have some things like that. (However, don't get mixed up with PETA's philanthropy... they're a little terroristic...). However, note that the things on PETA would be vegan, not just vegetarian.

Just so you know the difference, vegan is the form of vegetarianism that carries the moral into other aspects of life. For example, vegans don't wear leather, fur, etc. You really aren't even supposed to wear pearls when you are vegan (because it comes from clams). Vegans also don't eat dairy products or eggs. They have the utmost respect for animals, and they try not to use them for their own personal needs.

I, myself, am basically vegetarian. I don't do it for moral reasons, though. However, I try to avoid eating eggs from large companies and, if I could, I would buy my meat from a local farmer. I don't like the idea of mass slaughterhouses....

I've tried soy milk, but I don't really like the plain stuff. Silk's chocolate soy milk is good though.

Try to eat cereals and oatmeal. Talk to your doctor about ways that you can replace your lost protein. It sounds to me as if somebody has been to your school ; from Animal Rights preaching Vegetarianism to the young . I have had experience of this with my children . I can except that some people just find eating meat disgusting , the texture and taste . Who told you that Vegetarians are healthier and that you will lose weight ? This is propaganda ( sales talk ) to persuade people , to give up eating meat . Meat animals are bred specially for meat and are not abused .
At 10 years old you need all the vitamins and protein to make you grow big , strong and healthy .
It is important to have a ballanced diet ; meat is your principal source of protein and fibre . I think it is not good to eat an excess of meat , 1/3 meat to 2/3 vegetable . It is difficult for vegetarians to get enough protein in their diet ; much of the food they eat is disgusting and without any taste . What will your mother do , cook a special meal for you ? No animals will be saved by your going vegetarian . You eat up your good meat that you have enjoyed all your life so far !!!
You are right meat substitutes are disgusting . Are you going to eat a nut or vege-roll ; while watching the rest of your family eat deliceous Roast Beef ? Eat what mother puts on your plate ; if as an adult you decide to become vegetarian , that is your decision . Being that you are young, it is very important that you have the support of your parents in this decision. They are the one's that need to research proper diet and nutrition for a vegetarian child. This is not that difficult, a little research and reading is the key.

There are many books and websites that can aid you and your parents.

Becoming vegetarian is more than just eating meatless meat, or side dishes. You need to replace the meat with other sources of nutrition. These sources should include whole grains, fruits, vegetables, seeds, nuts, etc.

Good luck with your decision. If you are eating a proper and varied diet than you will find that it is healthier(lower in saturated fats, cholesterol, etc). Remember the key is knowledge and variety. Wow, people really like to give you advice, huh?
I don't think that age 10 you would be at any risk from a well-balanced meatless diet. Before we had such efficient meat factories, meat was not commonly eaten every day. There are entire meatless communties. Someone else mentioned Hindus, but some Buddhists do not eat any animal flesh, either. Meat is certainly not a "health food."
Still. . . run this by your parents. They'll be the ones making the food-buying decisions (right?).
I stopped eating meat about 8 years ago, and rarely use "meatless meat." I like spaghetti, and vegetable lasagna, actually lots of Italian food. . .Grilled cheese sandwiches. . .And I never experienced any meat cravings, except for these evil little things called Cheese Krystals.
To make it easy, you could just eat meat less and less frequently and see if you want to stop altogether.
Good luck and I think it's wonderful that you have sympathy with the animals that feed us. peta2.org is a source of information for you.
