What Are The Different Types of Vegetatians?
Answers: Here is the complete glossary, note not all on this list are vegetarians
VEGETARIAN (Lacto-ovo- vegetarian)
When most people think of vegetarians, they think of lacto-ovo-vegetarians. People who do not eat beef, pork, poultry, fish, shellfish or animal flesh of any kind, but do eat eggs and dairy products are lacto-ovo vegetarians (“lacto” comes from the Latin for milk, and “ovo” for egg).
Lacto-vegetarian is used to describe a vegetarian who does not eat eggs, but does eat dairy products.
Ovo-vegetarian refers to people who do not eat meat or dairy products but do eat eggs.
VEGAN
Vegans do not eat meat of any kind and also do not eat eggs, dairy products, or processed foods containing these or other animal-derived ingredients such as gelatin. There is some debate as to whether certain foods, such as honey, fit into a vegan diet.
FRUITARIANS –
They eat only fruits, nuts and seeds.(This includes the fruit of vegetables such as tomatoes and courgettes. However they never eat the roots of plants such as carrots and potatoes)
PISCIVORE –
The word piscivore is used to describe those who abstain from eating all meat and animal flesh with the exception of fish. Although the word is not commonly used, more and more people are adopting this kind of diet, usually for health reasons or as a stepping stone to a fully vegetarian diet. Pescatarian is occasionally used but is incorrect.
POULTRYIVORE –
Eats chicken and turkey, but does not eat mammals.
POULTRYPHOBIC-
Won’t eat chicken or turkey, but eats all other animals
FLEXITARIAN/ SEMI-VEGETARIAN/ DEMIVEGETARIAN
You don’t have to be vegetarian to love vegetarian food! “Flexitarian” is a term recently coined to describe those who eat a mostly vegetarian diet, but occasionally eat meat.
RAW VEGAN/RAW FOOD DIET
A raw vegan diet consists of unprocessed vegan foods that have not been heated above 115 degrees Fahrenheit (46 degrees Celsius). “Raw foodists” believe that foods cooked above this temperature have lost a significant amount of their nutritional value and are harmful to the body.
MACROBIOTIC
The macrobiotic diet, revered by some for its healthy and healing qualities, includes unprocessed vegan foods, such as whole grains, fruits and vegetables, and allows the occasional consumption of fish. Sugar and refined oils are avoided. Perhaps the most unique qualifier of the macrobiotic diet is its emphasis on the consumption of Asian vegetables, such as daikon, and sea vegetables, such as seaweed.
OMNIVORE –
Eats both animal and plant matter. A slang derogatory term for FLEXITARIAN.
CARNIVORE
Only eats meat.
LANDIVORE
Eats meat, but does not eat seafood or fish.
CONFUSITARIAN –
Someone who thinks vegetarians eat meat.
KINGDOM CHALLENGED
Someone who thinks that fish or chicken is a plant. Or that an eggplant is an animal.
HERBIVORE

SUSHIVORE
Eats fish but only uncooked.
BEEFEATER –

SNACKATARIAN –
Will not eat snacks made in the image of animals. E.g. Chocolate Easter Bunny, Animal crackers, goldfish crackers, gummy bears, or swedish fish.
STRICT SNACKATARIAN –
Won’t eat chocolate easter eggs as well.
OVO-SNACKATARIAN
Will eat Chocolate Easter eggs, but not the chocolate easter bunny etc,
PESCASNACKATARIAN
Will eat goldfish crackers and swedish fish but will not eat gummy bears, chocolate easter bunny and animal crackers. Really there are 2 types.
The larger group don't eat meat products of any kind, but do eat dairy.
Vegans are vegetarians who don't eat any animal product, including dairy procuts & honey. Theoretically, vegans should also not wear any leather products, though many skip that step.
I know others who call themselves vegetarian but who do eat fish (vegequarians I suppose), but to me if you eat animal flesh (and fish are animals, just not mammals) you are not a vegetarian. You can assign a fancy word to it like pesco-vegetarian, but by definition - YOU ARE NOT A VEGETARIAN. Don't like my strict interpretation? Take it from the encyclopedia then:
"Vegetarianism is the practice of a diet that excludes all animal flesh, including poultry, game, fish, shellfish or crustacea, and slaughter by-products. There are variations that admit dairy products, eggs and/or products from animal labor as honey. Many vegetarians also choose to avoid wearing clothing that has involved the death of animals, such as leather and fur." One thing that many people don't realize or understand is that there are different types of vegetarians. Each individual vegetarian has his or her own personal reasons for choosing their diet, and these reasons determine exactly what foods they eliminate. Although a few different reasons and motivations are described in the Why? section, below is just a brief definition of each type of vegetarian.
Total Vegetarians eat only plant food. They do not eat any animal foods, including fish, eggs, dairy products, and honey.
Vegans not only omit all animal products from their diets, but they also eliminate them from the rest of their life. Vegans use nothing from animals, such as leather, wool, and silk.
Lacto-Vegetarians will include dairy products into their diet of plant food.
Lacto-Ovo-Vegetarians eat both eggs and dairy products.
Pesco-Vegetarians include fish into their diets.
Pollo-Vegetarians eat poultry, such as chicken, turkey, and duck.
WHAT IS A VEGETARIAN?
There are different kinds of vegetarians:-
1. LACTO VEGETARIANS
They eat no flesh of any kind. Their diet consists of fruit and vegetables and dairy products(vegetarian cheese only)
2. LACTO-OVO-VEGETARIANS
They eat the same as the lacto vegetarians but also include eggs in their diet.
3. VEGANS
They eat only plant food. They eat no flesh, no eggs and no dairy products. Some will eat honey but not others.
4. FRUITARIANS
They eat only fruits, nuts and seeds.(This includes the fruit of vegetables such as tomatoes and courgettes. However they never eat the roots of plants such as carrots and potatoes) Octo-Lacto Vegetarian - no red meat, poultry, fish, or products that contain animal products like gelatine
Lacto Vegetarian - do not eat any foods that involve the slaughter of animals including eggs.
Vegan - dont eat anything that is derived from an animal like milk, butter, eggs, honey
Demi-Vegetarian- don't eat red meat or poultry, but they do eat fish, eggs, Vegetarian cheese, and milk-based products. This is not true Vegetarianism.
Fruitarian - somebody who believes that you should not kill any living thing to survive. Instead, they can only eat the fruit of plants that don't actually mean death to the plant. There are vegetarians, who don't eat meat of ANY kind(yes, fish is meat),but may or may not eat egs and dairy products.
And there are vegans, they don't eat any animal products(includng honey) and don't use or wear any animal products. There is a growing trend called Flexitarian Vegetarians that is growing faster than the old kind of vegetarian or vegan. Google "Flexitarian Diet" and you will be quite amazed. there is Felxitarian (me)
and various other types.. i however do not know then all. me... kingdom challenged? LOL!! :D There are 4 types: lacto-ovo, ovo, lacto, and strict (vegan).
Also, there are a lot of various sub-types, but most are just variants of strict vegetarianism. Fruitarianism is one example.
