Sticky Gum Back Stamps?!
Sticky Gum Back Stamps?
Is it true or was it true years ago that the gum on the reverse of stamps in the old days was mainly made from animal bones.
The reason I ask this is because a Vegetarian told me this?
Answers appreciated.
Answers: No. It was vegetable mucilage. Not because of any dietary concerns, but because it was cheap and it worked well.
At the time of the anthrax mailings, there were jokes of going back to a mucilage made from pork, since that way the Muslims wouldn't dare lick the stamps. However, it was only a joke. Every office supply store used to carry stamp moisteners that used a wet sponge. I aways heard that glue was made of horse hooves. No one can believe a V&V they make up all kinds of falshoods to shock the unsuspecting. and use data that is bias and untrue. Eat your stamps like a good demented vegan.
