Why do vegetarians eat chicken?!

Question:

Why do vegetarians eat chicken?

Is chicken not meat?

Answers: Pollo-Vegetarins eat chicken. Pollo-vegetarian cultures are globally accepted as vegetarians, but not by the fanatics on this forum as you will notice by some of the comments.

Flexitarian Vegetarians MAY eat chicken if they choose. Flexitarian Vegetarians and Flexitarian Vegans are growing in numbers in Europe, UK and the USA, while the numbers of old style vegans and vegetarians are declining.

Strict vegetarians, whose numbers are declining, do not eat any meat whatsoever. Chicken is meat...i dont know of any vegetarians that eat chicken if they do then they aren't vegetarian... Vegetarians don't eat chicken. I am a vegetarian. Chicken is definitely not on a vegetarian diet. they don't!

chicken is flesh, just like beef, pork, etc. NOT ANY VEGETARIANS I KNOW OF ! chicken is meat and vegetarians dont eat chicken or fish! I was educated on this be a lady friend (vegetarian) who explained it this way when I asked. There are vegetarians and there are vegans. Vegans are the strict no dairy, no fish, no meat at all group, while most vegetarians are somewhat loose on the rules and just skip the red meats, which includes pork. White meat from chicken is OK as is any white fish and shellfish. I do not know if this is a strict divide between the two factions, but that is what she told me when I asked why she ordered a teriyaki chicken salad after she told me she was a vegetarian. If some one eats chicken or fish, he / she is no longer vegetarian. Vegetarians are allowed to eat dairy products and eggs (sterile). If someone eats chicken, they are not vegetarian.

If someone eats an ant(on purpose), they are not vegetarian.

Vegetarians do not eat animals, even on their birthday, at a wake or Thanksgiving/Christmas. some vegos just eat white meat(fish and chicken) and not red. i dont eat either. They don't

there are some people who eat chicken and call themselves vegetarian. This si not the same thing, they are not vegetarians..

Vegetarians do nto eat meat, fish, poulty nor slaughter by-products. Actually, chicken is not meat, it is poultry. But the vegetarians I know don't eat chicken. The word "meat" has kind of been destroyed by modern society. It is best to simply say that vegetarians don't eat animals.

:) Because chickens aren't very smart and even a vegetarian can catch them. Because they can and some eat fish and seafood as well. Vegetarians do not eat chicken

Chicken is meat

PEople who eat chicken cannot fit the definition of "vegetarian"

Hey.. I may be 5'3" with dark brown hair.. That wouldn't physically stop me from describing myself as a "Tall, striking blonde." Yes, I'd be a moron.. No, it would not mean I was a tall, striking blonde, just because I described myself that way.. People can CALL themselves vegetarians all they want.. doesn't make it true, if they don't fit the definition.. It only adds to the growing confusion on what "meat" and "vegetarian" mean..

Sad sad sad.. People who say they are vegetarian and eat chicken are phonies. Real vegetarians do not accept them as fellow vegetarians.

It comes from some medievel European/Biblical definition of birds and fish not being animals. The modern science of Biology confirms that chickens are animals. Although they did not invent the English word "vegetarian", the practice apparently began in India thousands of years ago as a part of "Ahimsa" (non-violence). Hindu/Jain/Buddhist scripture said not to eat animals, and it did not exclude fish or birds from this. The idea that you can eat fish or chicken and still be "vegetarian" was invented by Americans.

It's like saying "I don't smoke, I just smoke light cigarettes."

"Flexitarians" are not vegetarians. Here is a link to a web site from the American Dietetic Association about vegetarianism:

http://www.eatright.org/cps/rde/xchg/ada... Vegetarians don't eat chicken. vegetarian = no animals. chicken, beef, pork, fish, dog, cat, whatever. poultry is simply a generic term so we dont feel bad about slaughtering billions of chickens per year. Depends of what vegetarians you are talking about. Vegans usually don't use or eat any animals products. Ovolacto vegtarians eat milk and eggs, but never any animal meat. Pescetarians eat fish and no other animal meat. They reason that since fish don't have fully developled spinal chord or brain. Some people eat fish and chicken and still consider themselves vegetarian. I am not quite sure why. i don't do your research.. vegetarians don't eat animal product or processed animal product.
