I'm going camping but i have hypertension, so what foods should i bring?
I'm going camping but i have hypertension, what are some foods that will last for awhile and not have much sodium? i usually eat salads and small portions of meats. but i noticed that if i leave the salad bag opened by a little bit it becomes brown fairly quickly.
i thought about buying foods that are sun dried that are in bags but those usually have tons of sodium or preservatives that are unhealthy. i don't know how to make sun dried fruits and nor do i have the time to make them. i'm just looking for foods that don't have lots of sodium (salt) that can last for days.
What i'm leading to say is how is it possible to eat healthy foods that will last for days in a storage container? Additional Details

I would like to mention, foods that are canned have high preservatives and still have lots of sodium compared to natural foods that last longer. like someone mentioned peanuts that are unsalted last longer and don't require crucial packaging. i can understand that canned foods have come a long ways of become "healthier" but i still refuse to eat canned foods. thanks for the replies so far.

O.K. I hate to cook and salt is bad for me so, my answer will reflect that. Assuming you will have an iced down cooler, I would take hummus and some healthy crackers or bread. Fruits that last longer are apples. Maybe some grapes too. There are also some canned northern beans, peas, and corn that come non or low salted. You just have to search them out. I mix the three together. But that makes a lot, so maybe you could share with someone else.
Also, there are some good cereals such as Kashi Lean that are good for you.
I have found that there's nothing wrong with eating the same thing over and over on camping trips. It can be boring, but it's often the healthy way to go. Besides, did you go camping to eat or enjoy the outdoors? I also have taken along some of those granola type bars, which some are good for you and some aren't, so check the ingredients first.
Oh, and carrots are GREAT for campouts. They don't have to be kept cold, but it's nice when they are. And you can cook them too if you wish, but I don't. Take plenty of dried fruit and unsalted nuts. Take fruit that's heartier, such as apples and oranges. Oatmeal or instant hot cereal for the mornings. Low sodium canned soups and fresh veggies that will keep, such as carrots, potatoes, green beans. Whole grain bread. I have no idea what to suggest in the way of meat. Don't forget to bring your meds!
Edit: Oops! Just noticed this is in vegetarian. Skip the comment on the meat. Maybe some canned beans or bean soup? The problem with getting food that will last for days is that it usually needs preserving(salt) to do so.
Canned beans, potatoes, Salmon, tuna fish, fruit bowls(4pk) vegetable soup, powdered milk,low-salt peanut butter, jelly, cereal, bread, syrup, canned tuna and coffee/tea.
Powdered mixes for biscuits or pancakes are easy to carry and prepare, as is dried pasta. There are plenty of powdered sauce mixes that can be used over pasta, but check the required ingredient list. Carry items like dried pasta, rice, and baking mixes in plastic bags and take only the amount you’ll need.
Have a safe trip and don't forget your meds =) Go to a co-op and load up on dried fruits, unsalted nuts, puddings in small containers, etc.
