If (hypothetically) everybody was a vegetarian, what would keep the animals from overrunning us?!

Question:

If (hypothetically) everybody was a vegetarian, what would keep the animals from overrunning us?

If we no longer killed mass species for anything other than basic material goods and not for food wouldn't they increase in population to a level which threatened humans?

Answers: No..because we wouldn't be BREEDING millions of them.. the population of cows, for example, would be MUCH smaller if everyone became vegetarian.. We'd actually have to work to keep them from being extinct, because they're not used to living on their own.. Same goes for any other meat animal (Pigs, chickens,)... If we put them back into the wild, we'd have to make sure there was a nice predator/prey balance in the area..

The answer is NO because we are smarter than any animal.. no animal can "overrun" humans... We breed the animals we eat. As vegetarians, we wouldn't raise farm animals, and Darwinism would take care of animal populations. No. They are bred for food BY us. We wouldn't breed them so they wouldn't exist. If we stop eating meat we would stop producing animals the way we do now. That is such a stupid theory let's just say things go back to stone age. Carnivores would still exist even if they are not even if they are not the human variety. Nature will do what she will to keep things in balance. If God didn't want us to eat animals, then why are they made of meat?

Do these people seriously think farm animals would stop breeding because we stopped making it happen? Weird. I think they know how to do that on their own.

It's almost as weird as this question. Like you could actually convince everybody on the planet to do the same thing. You could, if there was only one person on the planet. No, Nature has pretty good ways of balancing itself. Some animals are predators and some are prey. In nature they would balance themselves. If we didn't eat meat we wouldn't be breeding NEARLY as many cows or chickens or pigs so their populations would decline A LOT! Fish are the same way. Some larger fish feed on smaller ones and to keep them from taking over the world, we eat the big ones like Tuna, Halibut, Marlin shark etc. The only things I worry about taking over the world is Cockroaches, they seem to be able to survive ANYTHING and if we weren't killing them with pesticides I think they WOULD take over the world! Just because we stop torturing and murdering them, doesn't mean that we would stop controlling the population and where they could roam. Ever hear of fences?

The only reason there are so many is because so many people want to eat them. The world would be run by cows and chickens. You had better keep eating them to keep everyone safe. hmmm....are WE not made of MEAT?? just wondering....

in fact you should do research on the bible before you use it out of context....originally adam and eve did not eat meat...in fact they were at peace with animals.

and yes, WE breed animals...they know how to do it themselves BUT without our help it will be a natural process that takes TIME.

meat is terrible for you. so is fish. though not as bad. (why do you think we are obese?) meat consumption has risen outstandingly in the past few decades. contributing to the weight gain....kinda sad stuff. I can't really answer your question because I'm trying to figure out what you mean by "basic material goods." Hypothetically this, Hypothetically that...

The answer to this question matters just about as much as the question does. sorry Billy but you are missing the fact that commercial animals are reared artificially just for food.

Your question is a common one but easliy answered by drawing a parallel to other animals.

Horses ? They are neither overrunning us not are they extinct. Some live in the wild, some are kept by land owners. The same would be true of cows, pigs and sheep, we have some non-commercial cows and sheep at our place. They survive quite happily on thier own.

Most of us don't eat Zebra or Giraffe and i don't see them taking over the world. With the human population increasing exponentially perhaps we should start consuming human flesh. I've heard that rich, white Republicans are quite tasty. Of course not. We breed them like crazy to fulfill the demand of current eating habits. Just like deer are breed so hunters can justify shooting them for being overpopulated. It's a self-fulfilling prophecy. As many have pointed out, the so-called "food" animals are bred by humans for consumption. Of course they still know how to breed and will continue to do so, but not in the horribly inflated, unnatural numbers they do now. If you have ever seen battery-caged chickens or some of the more commercial factory-farmed pigs and cows, you know that there can be thousands of animals in less than 1,000 square feet. Do you really think the animals would breed themselves that way if it weren't for us? Do you think that is how nature intended things to be? No. If everyone miraculously stopped eating meat, these animals would not "overrun" us, they would simply finally get back to the way they should have been living all this time. Do you really think 20,000 cows would grow naturally? They're BRED and crammed into shacks.
