What exactly does 'cage free' mean when buying eggs?!

Question:

What exactly does 'cage free' mean when buying eggs?

Answers: Actually the word "Cage-free" is misunderstood. The actuality behind it is that the chicken are still caged but they are let out for a certain amount of time (it is upto the farmer) and then put back into cages.
Its sad to say that I have done research and found out that a farmer that lets his chicken out for only 5 minutes every 24 hours and keeps them cooped up in cages for the other 23 hours and 55 minutes, the eggs are still considered "cage free". It means the chickens who laid the eggs were not caged. the hens are not kept in cages. Other than that there are no more regulations the chickens are supposed to be free range
not penned up Battery hens (in factory farming, the source of 98% of eggs) are put with 4-5 other hens in a cage that's so tight they can't even spread one wing. They have the shortest lifespan and commonly die of stress related causes. If they are sent to slaughter before they die, they are often nearly featherless and insane.

Chickens are the most abused animal in the world.

Cage free simply means that the hens weren't kept in such a cage.

Yes, me-troll; insane. Humans aren't the only animal that can be driven insane by living conditions.

Not hard to tell if an animal has been driven insane by observing its behavior, me-troll. And you know as well as I do that I am just a vegan, so that fruit comment is quite irrelevant to me. It means the hens were not kept in a cage to produce the eggs. They were most likely free range. It means they have a promotion going on. Buy eggs and get a free cage.

red---"If they are sent to slaughter before they die, they are often nearly featherless and insane."----insane???....LOL

red---do have a name of a good poultry psychiatrist? BTW-did you find any fruit laying on the ground today or are you fasting? Cage free / range free...means not cooped up. it means they not been locked in cages all the time. Although cage free eggs are suppose to be better for the chickens, there is little that people know about this definition and the situation at hand. Although the regulations are to have the chickens in a "free range" lifestyle doesnt necessarily mean that they are running around the farm having a good time. According to reports, the chickens only have to be "cage free" one hour a day to be considered "free range." There are other regulations that are not clearly defined. To others before you push the little "thumbs down" just read the information on the websites...You'll be surprised It means that they are crammed wing-to-wing inside a huge warehouse that smells so bad that the ammonia from the excrement causes workers to suffer lung damage.
