What types of supplements should a vegetarian be taking?!

Question:

What types of supplements should a vegetarian be taking?

I am currently taking a multi-vitamin, biotin, and also calcium supplements as well...is there anything else I should be taking? What about omega 3? Anything I can take to help with my protein intake?

Answers: None, if you eat a balanced diet.

If not, you might want to take a multi-vitamin, sublingual B-12, calcium, and iron (only if you don't get much iron in your food, too much iron is just as bad as not enough).

Since you already take most of that, all I would add is a sublingual (melts under the tongue) B-12. None

There is no need for a vegetarian to be taking any supplements,

If you take that lot, you perhaps need to look at varying your diet.

Perhaps surf these pages from the vegetarian society:

Specifically to your protein question, there is no need to take extra protein, there is more than enough is a balance vegetarian diet, try this advice:

http://www.vegsoc.org/info/protein.html... If nothing else, take an iron supplement to ward off anemia, which can be a big problem for vegetarians. Omega 3 is really great, and that would be a good one to take as well, as far as protein, just go to a health food store or GNC and get a whey protein powder, they come in flavors or plain esy to blend with other foods or drink as shakes and very well tolerated. You could also try soy protein, but you may want to check in with your doctor on that one, since you are a woman and depending on your age, etc., in case you do not eat dairy either. It would help to know what type of vegetarian you are, such as ovo-lacto. Anyway, hope this helps. I take spirulina and a B complex.
