I need some help?


My daughter is having a sleepover/b-day party for her 13th. One of the girls is vegan and I have no idea what that intails? Can she not have any animal byproducts.. dairy etc.. and does anyone have any ideas what to make her so she has snacks too.


Answers: www.vegweb.com has tons of recipes, and I think they even have stuff for kids and stuff for parties. Basically, being vegan means she doesn't eat meat, dairy, eggs, honey, gelatin, or carmine to name a few. And do check for byproducts.

You can get a cheeseless pizza with lots of veggie toppings. There are plenty of veggie "chicken" nuggets and buffalo "wings" made with soy protein (just read the label to make sure they don't have eggs) that you can find at a Whole Foods or natural foods store. If you get BBQ sauce for the nuggets, just check for honey and worcestershire sauce (which has anchovies). If you get ketchup, it should be okay. I have seen vegan ranch dressings also.

Cut-up veggies and hummus and/or chips and salsa is good finger food, as are potato chips (but if you get a flavored type, check the ingredients).

Purely Decadent and So Delicious make great soy ice creams. Ah-Laska is a great chocolate syrup, or she can just have a bowl of soy ice cream.

Good luck and thanks for being a great hostess to your daughter's friend. You can make sandwiches. Why don't you find out from her what she likes? Ask your daughter... You surely can make pizza, what about noodles? potatoes? salad? french fries, springrolls, um...cake, biscuits, crisps, popcorn, there's a lot to make... She can have no animal products what so ever-fish, meat,cheese,eggs,gelatine etc. There's loads she 'can' eat though-if you go to a health food shop (holland and barratt if you're from the uk?) they have lots of things she could have-vegan substitutes of sausage rolls,icecream,yoghurts,cheese... marmite ricecakes, jelly etc.Or you could just do her things like ready salted crisps,hummous,carrot sticks,melon slices, fruit salad etc.Good luck ! Here are really good vegan brownies and very easy to make (if you don't tell, people have no clue it's vegan):

Zucchini Brownies

1 1/2 cups sugar
1/2 cup oil
1/2 cup cocoa
1 tsp salt
1/2 tsp baking soda
1 tsp vanilla
2 cups Zucchini (peeled and shredded)
2 cups flour

Preheat oven to 350. Mix first 6 ingredients with a mixer for two minutes.
Add Zucchini and flour 1 cup at a time alternately (1 cup flour, then 1 cup zucchini, repeat). Mix very well. Pour into a jelly roll pan (for thinner brownies) or a baking pan (for thicker ones). Bake for 30-45 minutes (depending on how thin you have them).

First of all.. you didn't tell us what kinds of snacks or meal you were planning for everyone else, so that we could tell you how to make a similar thing for the vegan..

Pizza you can make some without cheese.. Put plenty of sauce on it, and tomatoes and mushrooms and if you can find a "soy cheese" without cassien or whey in it, you can use that!!

Tortilla chips and salsa are vegan, and they're tasty too! You can get VEGETARIAN refried beans and make a bean dip with beans and salsa... that sould be tasty and completely vegan.. you can ask the vegan girl if she uses any kind of vegan sour cream at her home.. if she does, you can ask her to bring a little, to mix in the bean dip to make it even better...

Ooh.. you can get hummus.. that is really tasty with tortilla chips!!

I suggest asking the vegan girl for ideas.. she'll appreciate that you are trying to accomodate her... Hello. Vegan means that she will not eat meat, fish, eggs, milk or milk products, cheese, yoghurt, butter or anything with animal ingredients like biscuits with animal fat.
You can get some snacks from a health food shop. Most will be labelled vegan friendly if they are so.
Some good snacky foods that everyone will love are:
Humous dip with carrot and celery sticks. (you can buy this but it is also easy to make).
Vegan cheese-less pizzas. If you season the vegetables well with oregano and use a good tomato sauce (no pesto, it has cheese in it), a pizza can be very tasty without cheese. This is easy to make for everyone else too with cheese so you don't have to go out of your way.
Oven-baked aubergines with chopped lemon rind and chilli and lots of olive oil
tabouleh (a type of salad made from soaked cous cous, lemon, mint, coriander and any other salady things around except for lettuce)

Hi there, not sure where you live but if you have a local health store they may be able to advise you on certain products or have a range of vegan products you could use for your party. Veganism does not allow any animal products/byproducts. This can also include Jellies, sweets and marshmallows but there are vegan alternatives. Checking ingredients is important and avoid anything that says Gelatine (unless its specifies non-animal) www.vegansociety.com may be able to help you...good luck! linda mcartney or similar sausages (check label for egg milk proteins), ideas for pizzas are good but bear in mind that most vegan cheeses wont melt properly so are best with only tomato topping plus fake meats and veggies. If you're in the uk Tesco value bramley apple pies or asda bourbon creams are vegan. Most crisps are vegan, but check the labels on flavoured ones carefully - might be safer to stick to salted unless you get KP beef, salt n vinegar Golden Wonder pickled onion, tomato ketchup, salt n vinegar, curry Walkers prawn cocktail, roast chicken, worchester sauce, salt n vinegar or Doritos chilli - they are all vegan. If you bake, make some cakes with vegan egg replacer from a health food shop. You can buy vegan chocolate in most supermarkets and most green and black's dark chocolate is vegan. Alpro soya chocolate milk, custard, cream and chocolate desserts are yummy. most veggie pakoras/onion bhajis are vegan, but check the sauce. Get salted peanuts, pistachios. Chips or french fries (depending what you call them). Most sliced bread is vegan, I find in the UK many breads state vegan on the label, make hummous salad sandwiches or jam or peanut butter sandwiches. Avoid coca cola, I think it contains fish, most lemonade is ok as is Red Bull. Above all check the labels for anything obvious like lacto-anything, milk, egg, gelatin, lactic acid, honey. You could probably get a list of animal ingredients somewhere on the web and print it and take it shopping with you.
