that's the same assumption many people make... um, no vegans don't "barely eat anything." there is lots of food you can eat. I'll list some websites they'll help you but you should search online and go to the library and look for vegan cookbooks and such. also it'd be great to make your own food.

I'm sure you already know that vegans don't eat any animal by-products as well as the obvious, which is meat. you can also buy this book called "animal ingredients a-z". therefore you're gonna have to read ingredients on your food, etc.

really don't let the list of animal ingredients scare you because honestly I love being a vegan, and no I don't just eat fruits and vegetables... there are so many delicious vegan food out there. like a lot of people, I thought being a vegan would be a hard task but it's not bad at all. just reading the ingredients and making sure it's vegan will be annoying at the beginning but you'll get used to it. hope that helps and good luck making your decision.

and what's with the person with the davey havok avatar response: sorry, but you shouldn't be talking, you have a davey havok icon, so you shouldn't just assume that the poster wants to be a vegan just because someone in a band is.
earn lots of money because its expenisve buying all the alternative vegan stuff, i've been veggy for years and hate the fact i eat dairy, sometimes i even gross myself out while eating it,

it is quite difficult when you have no money.. i can't afford to buy all the alternatives
I don't know, but veganandproud probably does :)
lol..sorry alan-partridge's answer... but seriuosly I think you'll purify your mind & body by turing vegan but don't force it,
I don't know if you're a vegeterian right now but if not, start by cutting out red meat, then slowly, chicken & just eat fish for a while. I'd seriouly suggest you find some books about replacing the protein you'll be missing safely. For example tofu is a very good source of tofu (you can buy minced meat tofu at frozen section & it tastes very good)...& beans etc
Then cut out fish & then slowly eggs etc...

I think there are some good vegan books you can get & there's sites which are also very good for recipes:

I think vegetables are just yummy, I happily munch on cauliflower, carrots(sprinkled with lemon juice & seasoned), grate beetroot in salad, eat peas & corn (with some olive oil & salt & pepper, very yummy) as snacks...be creative with your eating...
eating healthy food is a lot more fun,it's just easier to reach for a chocolate bar sometimes!!
I've been vegan for about six months, and I had the same feeling right before I turned vegan. However, stores have countless "accidentally" vegan foods (oreos, kettle corn, and wheat thins, to name a few). Also, you won't miss any of your favorite foods because virtually everything can be made with substitues. My mom, for instance, baked me an apple pie today using vegan margarine and such, and I promise you couldn't tell the difference.
I guess the main tip is to not get frusterated in the beginning, because you'll quickly find plenty of foods to keep you satisfied. Also, you should, unfortunately, probably get used to reading labels if you shop at a regular supermarket, because few things label their foods as vegan.
Good luck and have fun, because being vegan can introduce you to an array of new, great foods.
Read the Skinny ***** Book. I didn't want to turn Vegan, but i did after i read that. And it's really easy, your taste buds just adapt after a while. Also, I made pancakes without eggs. Just flour and rice milk. And they didn't taste any different at all. So i tried it with cake mix and that worked too!
It is not as difficult to become a Vegetarian or even Vegan as it might look. The most important part is your will to change your diet. Everything else follows from there.

Once you have the will, I would advise to change your diet in a gradual way, not from one day to the other.
Start first with reducing meat and animal products by - lets say - 50%. After a couple of weeks you will already feel a difference.
Then proceed further, step by step, until you do not eat any animal products anymore. I would also advise to cut out all refined and artificial sugars, as well as other artificial additives and enhancers (even if they do not come from animals).
The result will be better health, much more energy, greater concentration and performance levels, as well as better skin and hair.

In order to achieve your task, you will have to do most of the cooking for yourself, as you should avoid any pre-prepared and processed food (even if it concerns vegetables). Most restaurants do not cater properly for Vegetarians, and even less for Vegans. But do not let that put you off. You can buy fresh fruit and vegetables in markets and many shops, and then prepare your own food. If you need to provide for lunch at work, bring your own food with you. And if you go out with friends do not be afraid to refuse anything that is not proper.

I used to eat meat and almost everything for years. But when I saw the light, I changed and became first a Vegetarian and then a Vegan. It needs discipline and strong will-power, but it can be done and is very beneficial.
Looking back after five years, I would never go back and eat all the terrible stuff other people consume every day. And I am much happier, healthier and more creative now.

I wish you good luck and success!
My tip is not to ask here. Your going to get a lot of wise *** meat eating losers who have nothing better to do than try to harass you for wanting to eat health food.

loads and loads of delicious vegan recipes to try
A tip for turning Vegan is don't try and practise the principles in one hit, especially if you are changing a lifestyle of meat, dairy, eggs, clothing etc. and everything else that goes with it. After all nobody is going to throw you in jail if you go against what is important to you right now. In most cases Vegans rarely reach the pinnacle, it's always the striving that will make it interesting and enjoyable for you.
Enjoy the ride.
dont do it just cause someone from a band is
I guess I used to think the same as you, that veganism would be limiting. But I swear I've gained weight since going vegan just because I've been trying so many great new recipes. Look for a couple of good vegan cookbooks. I LOVE "Vegan with a Vengeance" by Isa Chandra Moskowitz (she has a public access vegan cooking show and a website to go with - www.theppk.com - check it out for sample recipes.) Another good one is "How it All Vegan" by Tanya Barnard and Sarah Kramer. It has lots of little recipes for homemade vegan substitues (parmesan cheese, feta, mayonnaise, etc.) Going vegan does mean you have to cut out a lot of convenience food because lots of it has milk and/or eggs, but most of that stuff isn't any good for you anyway.
What would little Jimmy Urine do in this situation?
He'd probably make out with some random nasty guy, but that is beside the point.

You can make anything without eggs, just learn how to live without eggs before you decide to commit to a vegan diet.
Nearly everything that meat-eaters can have is possible in a vegan diet if you have the patience and dedication to experiment and get your hands a little dirty.
Like other posters, I felt exactly the same way before going vegan. What the heck could I eat? Fact is, it's almost effortless now (less than a year since I took the plunge.) Snacks include stuff like nuts, or dried fruit. Breakfast can be any number of things, like fresh fruit or oatmeal. Lunch could be Chinese steamed veggies with garlic sauce (just to throw an idea out in your direction.) One big thing I found - as a HUGE sushi fan - is that there is a ton of veggie only sushi out there...and rice ball onigiris - that really make for great snacks, also. There's tons of stuff out there. Just go for it, and you'll see.
Yes DON'T DO IT!
Don't consider it a challenge but a choice. When people say it is expensive it is not true. It is only expensive when you go buy all the pre-made vegan friendly garbage. While it is tasty and I do enjoy it, you don't need it. Vegans have existed long before the health food craze. You can make good food that is good for you all from scratch and it is not that hard. Look into seitan, it is better when you make it from scratch. Buy a good vegan cookbook and most of the recipes will not require prepackaged vegan friendly items. With the exception of faux beef (gimme lean, etc.). Which isn't that expensive if that is the only premade thing you are buying. It could also be omitted. If you try and stock the fridge with fake hot dogs and rib sandwiches and everything else, then it will get expensive. If you are doing the cooking than NOTHING will contain anything you don't add. Start reading and you will figure it out.
Yes - enjoy the remainder of your short life while you still can.
Think twice about it
dont eat your cat
not long left now then!
