Arg! the meat temptation got me!?!

Question: I've been a vegetarian for a couple of months. I went to the store to buy some organic lettuce for a salad I was makng. All of a sudden the smell of baked chicken filled my nose and I bought some chicken. It was too tempting. If you were in that situation, what would you do to avoid it?

Obviously something is missing from your diet if the smell of cooking meat hits you that hard.
Relax. enjoy the chicken. Spend a bit more time thinking about protein balance.
Maybe you are like many of us. We process vegetable protein poorly and need animal protein now and then. Just not nearly as much as before.
One of the common mistakes is abandonning fats. It is easy to do for cooking vegetables but we need fats in our digestive track to digest most proteins. Get some good oils to add to your salads.
Never go to the store on an empty stomach.

Hey Wounded Duck, the smell of any meat turns my stomach and makes me want to hurl. Nature at work, huh?
i try not looking at it, and just stay away from it

is ok to slip, just pray to chicken and ask for forgiveness and you'll be fine
I have a Aunty and friend who are both vegetarians so I know that it's hard to avoid temptation. Maybe to help avoid this you should eat befor shopping or practice self control... However avoiding eating meat is not good for your health, our bodies need iron and serious health problems can arise if you dont eat meat...

So if you dont eat meat im hoping you at least are repacing the iron that you are losing.
I wouldn't have to struggle to avoid it. I'm not a slave to anything. *Especially* food of all things. I see this all the time for some reason.

What to do? I couldn't resist.

If you truly don't want to do something, here's a hint. . .don't. Ta-da! :)
it used to tempt me but if you just think about what it is, rotting animal flesh, then you won't want it. now, after being a vegetarian for five years, the smell of meat makes me sick.
Buy the vegetarian equivalent if you're having problems. Try Morning Star Farms, Boca, or Amy's. (Usually in the frozen foods section or near the vegetables)
Eventually the taste and smell will be disgusting to you.
First don't stress about it too much. In the future I would definitely not go to the store hungry and stay out of the deli section as much as possible. When you get tempted, think about why you became a veg*n in the first place. At the very least, it will be a rational decison rather than giving into a whim.
I primarily eat for sustenance. Taste is a secondary objective.

Once i made this firm decision in my life, temptation regarding food has not been an issue.
"I went to the store to buy some organic lettuce for a salad I was making."

This sounds like it's supposed to be a joke.
Drive through KFC before you go to the store. If you eat plenty of the good stuff first you will not need to buy the second rate chicken.
Nothing. If it were chicken breast and not breaded it would be healthy so I would eat it, with a side of veges and a big glass of water.
Never go shopping really hungry.
And always think of the chicken being slaughtered when you think of eating meat. It really works for me and keeps the temtaptions at bay
Nature rears it's head. Humans are omnivores by nature!
