Giving Veg*ns a "Bad" name. Selfish?!
Was it, or is it wrong for the health industry etc to portray how bad smoking is and how it can kill you in all sorts of commercials, showing cancers and tumors and people breathing through their necks?
Stand up for what you believe in! Spread the word! I see absolutely nothing wrong with that...
Perhaps you are afraid of the personal insults and attacks you would recieve on a daily basis? How moral is that to the animals? Is that not selfish?
What are your thoughts?
Cheers.
Are you the next hero?
Answers: Why is it that some people are worried about giving Veg*ns a "bad" name when some of us get up on our soapbox and try to educate people on the matter?

Education is key. People do not always want to hear it though. People want to live their lives and not worry about how they hurt or what animals suffer due to their actions. Its easier to ignore the truth than to make a personal life style change. If people 'really' knew how their 'meat' became dinner, and what the cow, chicken, pig went through to get on their table they would never touch it again. So too bad if people are selfish and greedy enough not to want to hear the truth - it needs to come out and people need to be educated! Not in a preachy way, but showing just the facts and reality of the torture these intellegent gentle creatures go to so they can eat a fatty, cancer causing, puss and anti-biotic, hormone filled meal. yum.
too much money and time to be vegan.....
I, being a vegan myself, do not think that educating people on veganism is bad, unless you are insulting those who are not vegan. I think the reason why most people look down on vegans is because some call non-vegans "murderers" and such that makes them angry instead of sympathetic to the cause. If all vegans ever did was present the facts in an unbiased manner (or even biased but polite) then it seems as though the public would be much more receptive and we would not be given a "bad" name.
People just don't want to here it.
It's good to teach people, and it's good to be a bleeding-heart, especially to stand up for what you believe in.
But, (and here's the kicker)
People don't want to hear that something that they're doing is wrong.
People don't want to change, and don't want to be told to change.
it's the same for religion and other matters.
nothing one can do but to ignore the 'preachers' and the 'trolls'....
Troll
A couple of days ago this person said s/he was a meat eater, same day s/he implied s/he was a veg*n, yesterday s/he was a meat-eater who profited from the meat industry and later that same day a veg*n again. Challenged on this s/he claimed the account was used by several different people. Changed his/her name yesterday after a particularly stupid question which s/he deleted.
I agree with you all(except it's not too costly to do most vegan things. And, it comes back to you, like avoiding medical expenses).
When people put down Veg*nism, I worry that listeners will believe it.
I've discussed veg*nism with friends in a "friendly" way. So, from me, they heard the info the same way I heard it, and it has influenced the way they live, just like it influenced me.
Veg*ns need to remember there was a time when they themselves didn't live as ethically.
I persuade people to speak up about any opinions, or things they know, because if people don't hear the info, they can't take the right actions. We all need feedback to progress as a civilization.
*high five*!
Who do you think a meat-eater is going to listen to??
a. Someone screaming at them that meat is murder, and that they are going to die at an early age because of their meatie diet.
--or--
b. Someone who *when is asked* about their vegetarian diet, explains very politely why he/she is a vegetarian, about the health benefits, about why they feel that killing another animal is unnecessary. And lets the person choose for themselves, rather than screaming at them like some veggie nazi.
I'd go with the second choice...
Why because being violent and forcing your views down someones throat NEVER works, not in the short term, and definitely not in the long term. It actually hurts the cause more than it furthers it.
I'm guessing that you are a troll any way but I just wanted to answer :]
I've researched veganism a little, looking into it for the health benefits. Two things turned me off. 1. Vegans calling meat eaters murderers and cruel and stuff. Really? That's uncalled for. Really. Learn the industry first. And not just by reading a book. I grew up on a dairy farm and I know that almost all farmers are very humane to their animals. I know you disagree with it, but still, a lot of what is said about farmers and such is completely inappropriate. 2. No honey??? Honey farms are cruel to bees? I just can't wrap my mind around that. So I choose to still be a meat eater, but I enjoy being introduced to vegetarian and vegan cuisine and adopting some of it into my lifestyle when it's yummy. So please stop attacking the meat eaters. You may never know who you turn off from veganism forever.
Stand up all you want. Last I checked, however... this is Yahoo! Answers... not Yahoo! Rants and Soapboxing.
Not to mention, it's a violation of the TOS to use the forum for ranting OR soapboxing.
That's what blogs are for.
If you want to pay millions of dollars for anti-meat advertising on national television, then you can go ahead and do that too. No one is stopping you.
Giving veg*ns a bad name by forcing your beliefs down other's throats is basically lumping yourself in with those annoying people of a certain religion who knock on your door and tell you that you're going to hell.
Go ahead and stand up for what you believe in... elsewhere. No one wants another preachy vegan... we already have one.
