Going vegetarian?!

Question: I'm going to become a vegetarian for sure but I was wondering a few things. Should I take any vitamin supplements daily? Do they make fake bacon/bits? I know the no eggs thing is a vegan thing but what do they do instead of eggs in recipes? How can you possibly avoid eggs? I think I want to stop drinking milk too. Is soy milk disgusting or kinda the same? I'm already thin but will I lose any weight? That's all I can think of right now..HELP!

I wouldn't take a supplement, only because you will then have the feeling "Oh I got all my nutrients from my vitamin" when you should really strive to get all your nutrients from your diet. I would no be dependent on supplements/vitamins. Just search on google vegetarian, becoming a vegetarian, ect. There is a lot of information on the nutrients you will need and in what foods they are in. Vegans usually use egg substitutes or even silken tofu substitutes eggs in most recipes (I use tofu never tried the fake egg) Obviously you can choose whether or not you want to eat eggs. I do not drink milk, I actually do not like soy milk that much (I have been on soy milk since I was young due to milk allergy which has passed) I do like vanilla soy milk mixed with cereal or tea, then to drink straight I can only drink chocolate soy milk. My favorite milk is almond milk (again chocolate :D) You have so many options, soy milk(plain, vanilla, chocolate) almond milk (original, vanilla, chocolate) rice milk, and oat milk. You might lose weight if meat was a major role in your diet. Just pack up on the protein.
Milk is ok, soy milk is ok too. Soy substitute for chikcen nuggets etc are available, they taste ok.
No need to take vitamin supplements.
Soy milk is not bad after getting use to it for awhile. Then there is always the eggs in a milk carton, and they taste pretty bad too. All this takes a while to get use to, but if you really want to lose the weight, a little sacrifice won't hurt for your end result.
you think that wen comparing 2 non veg - veg is good. but in practical some of better advantages of using non veg.any way using of veg also is better for life.in my opinion try 2 use non veg my sweetie............
Well honestly what I got from all of this is your just looking for a quick fix to loose weight. You will get bored, and most likely fail.. especially if your already looking for "fake" meat products.

And for the record, soy milk, especially chocolate is very good once you adjust to the difference.
Do your research so you know what foods to eat for protein and eat a variety of vegetables and fruits-no need for supplements. You need not avoid eggs-if you have ethical issues buy cruelty free eggs-they are widely available. I personally like soy milk but I never was a cow's milk fan-there is also rice milk and almond milk. You won't necessarily lose weight-a vegetarian diet can be just as high calorie as any-it's all in the food choices you make.
No i dont think you need to take suppliments daily. if you want to take them anyway then do so.

yes they make fake bacon and bacon bits, though i dont much like the taste and texture of them : )

You can get all sorts of egg replacement things, they are often in the bake section or in the health section. ive used one called 'no egg' in the past.

Also, no eggs is vegan, eggs are still vegetarian.

Umm im not sure, do they sprout legs and chase you around? : ) i havent been acosted by eggs yet : )

Yeah milk is pretty disgusting. soy milk isnt much better in my opinion, still gooey rubbish. i just have honey and hot water on cereal instead.

You may lose some fat if you have any at all, make sure you eat enough and eat a proper varied diet. things like muesli will help to keep you at your target weight, i like to add dried fruit and honey to it.

umm ok, ask more questions if you need to : )

Good Luck : )
Vitamin supplements can't hurt. I take Veg1 sold at the vegansociety web site.

There is fake bacon yes, i tried a couple of types but i found it to be really quite rubbish!

Instead of eggs some people use a bannana apparantly, though there are plenty of cake recipes etc that you don't need egg for... read Vegan Cupcakes Take Over The World!

Quite easy to avoid eggs, i know some people who are allergic. It's much harder to avoid milk, there are milk ingrediants in the strangest of things... I mean, Twiglets?!?!

I'm not a fan of the replacment milks, i use rice milk in my cereal, but i found that in coffee and tea, i'd rather just have it black, it didn't take long to get used to it that way.

Your weight will probably flux a little at first, but if you're already quite thin you shouldn't lose much more weight. As long as your getting the right amount of calories per day, around 2000...

Good luck
Vitamins... they are not necessary if you eat a balanced diet. However, some new vegetarians are confused about what to eat, and may not be getting the nutrients they need. If this is the case, a good multivitamin isn't a bad choice.

Bacon... yes, there is fake "bacon" availiable in the freezer section of most big chain grocery stores.

Bacon Bits... most bacon bits are already vegetarian. They are usually made of textured soy protein, not real bacon. A few companies (Hormel) use real bacon, just read the ingredients and you should be fine.

Eggs...
1 Tablespoon flax seeds plus 3 Tablespoons water replaces one egg.

1/4 cup blended silken tofu = 1 egg.

1 1/2 tablespoons Ener-G Egg Replacer+ 2 tablespoons water mixed well = 1 egg.

1/2 banana blended until smooth or mashed well= 1 egg.

1/4 cup soy yogurt = 1 egg.

Soy Milk... some brands are good, some are bland. Try different kinds and different flavors until you find one you like. Personally, I like Rice Dream original flavor better than soy milk.

Weight... if you don't eat as many calories on a vegetarian diet, you will lose weight. If you eat more calories on a vegetarian diet, you will gain weight. Weight control is all about eating healthy. If you decide to become a vegetarian and eat nothing but cake, you will gain weight.
Follow your way. The way will teach you!
I have always been a vegetarian all my life.
and no probs at all.
Vege food is healthy
1) It can't hurt to take a vitamin supplement. Just read the labels to make sure your pills don't have gelatin (a vegetarian no-no). And remember--they're a supplement, not a replacement.

2) Yes, you can get fake bacon bits. A company called Pangea (www.veganstore.com) sells them, or you can find them at your natural foods store.

3) There are many ways to avoid eggs in recipes. My favorite is the Ener-G Egg replacer, but each vegan has his/her own way of replacing eggs. You can even make tofu scrambles to replace scrambled eggs.

4) Cows' milk is pretty gross when you think about it--hormones, antibiotics, blood, pus, all sorts of nasty chemicals. Soy milk is an acquired taste, but I honestly don't notice the difference in my baking. You can also try rice milk or almond milk (almond milk is very sweet, so don't use it in a savory recipe). Do experiment to find the brand you like.

5) You might lose weight, you might not. If you eat fewer calories than you burn off, you might lose weight.

Good luck!
you're not ready...

sorry.
soy milk is absolutely disgusting and if you are looking ofr fake bacon bits you arent really serious about being a vegan.
