Would it be wrong?!
Answers: Would it be wrong to substitute soy "meat" into a meal and tell my family that it is real meat?! My husband is a vegetarian, and I rarely eat meat. We both do this out of respect for the animals, and not just for the health benefits. I've tried to convince my family that there are plenty of soy alternatives that really taste just as good as "the real thing" and they just laugh and tell me I've just gotten used to the taste. I'm not saying everything is fantastic, or tastes the same as real meat - but tacos, for example, with veggie crumbles - or "chicken" noodle soup with veggie chicken. I'm telling you, when you prepare these things a certain way, you'd never know it wasn't meat. I just want to see their true reactions to the meal, after eating what they thought was meat. Any opinions or experience with this??
Are you kidding? My vegetarian brother does that all the time. Last time he made a chinesse soup and convinced all my meat loving, tofu hating realitives that it was chicken. They all ate it and loved it and then he revieled that it wasn't chicken but really large pieces of tofu. Nobody got mad at him and now they eat tofu everytime he makes something with it. They don't substitute themselves but they like tofu now. Its really fun to do and see the reactions. And they learned tofu isnt bad.
no I do it all the time!
Won't your family know that you don't prepare meat?
Just cook them dinner and let them figure things out for themselves. That's what I do. :)
I wouldn't lie to them, especially since you all decided to be vegetarians because of principles. It wouldn't be very nice.
I would first make absolutely sure that no one your feeding this meal to is allergic to anything you'll be substituting for meat. You don' t want any of them to get deathly ill at the dinner table. Other than that the only reason I would be hesitant is because I would hate for a meat eater to tell me its veggie crumbles and then after I ate it say "Ha ha, it was really meat, isn't it good?". I know its probably not going to be that traumatic for your guest, but you never know.
That said my mom has done it on my behalf before to my father and just never told him it was soy meat in the chili. He ate it just fine and took an extra helping
I can't really get away with it because every one knows I'm not cooking any meat in my kitchen. I'm aspiring to be a vegan chef and I'm lucky enough to have non-veg friends to be taste testers.
what's the point in being deceitful??? make the recipe and if someone asks, tell him.
My Personal Trainer does a class on Low fat cooking. Most people haven't a clue they are NOT eating real meat /chicken.
I would not lie to them, but there has to be away for you to cook for them & still be Veggie. Make Veggie Dishes don't use the fake meats. I am a long time Vegan & I can tell the difference too. In fact I luv Boca Chicken nuggets & would never eat ,say McD's. But I do find the beef things kind of icky.
Make them Veggie Mex-Tex food, Veggie pizzas, Hearty Lentil Stew with home made corn muffins, Pasta with a Thick Full of Veggies Pasta sauce with garlic bread..even have some grate cheese for them, the list is endless. Don't forget a fresh salad made with good quality ingredients & a nice dressing like 1 of Newman's.
A well cooked Veggie meal is a true delight.
Slainté(to your health)
Seems rather unprincipled to me. I wouldn't do it.
I consider lying to be immoral.
So my opinion is yes.
what if someone had a soy alergy and you killed them?
It's always wrong to deceive people
As long as they aren't allergic to soy, they deserve to have it rubbed in their faces for mocking your efforts.
Soy can cause gas and stomac cramping for some people until they get used to it. Many are also alergic to soy...so be sure you know who is allergic to what and all.
I have done it.. they said they liked it too..but wouldn't eat it any other times when I asked them if they wanted a veggie burger. I hope you have better luck than me if you do decide to do it.
Don't do it with people that would hold a grudge..or later try to feed you something that had meat in it and tell you it was veggie. That could be bad.
Not if you don't mind them lying to YOU as well.
Would a vegan like it if somebody served them something they said was vegan but wasn't?
I personally wouldn't do that for two reasons. One is I like to treat others as I wish to be treated, and if someone slipped real meat into my meal, saying it was a veg. substitute for meat, I'd be really upset! Second, I know a couple of people who would like to try more veg. foods, but are allergic to soy or all legumes. So, please be careful, and I would be honest. Who knows, maybe they will still be willing to try a taste when you let them know what it is. If it looks and smells good, they'll probably try it anyway!
Do it. Afterwards, ask them what they thought, then tell them it wasn't meat.
BUT... what if someone has a soy allergy. My nephew is allergic to soy. If he eats it, his throat will swell shut.
AND... you would probably be hysterical if someone decided to sneak meat into your food, and you found out after the fact. That is kind of bad.
You should do it, but only if you expect the same in return.
sure, go for it, then every time they fix you something, remember that after you eat it they may tell you how you just eat real meat and did not even know it. ha ha ha, wouldn't that just be so funny.
What if sum1 snuck meet in2 ure food
No that'd be stupid! Gotta love you some real beef thats been cut from an unsuspecting cow!! Mmmm mmm good!!
