I keep hearing about the estrogen levels in soy... Is this?!

Question: another blown-out-of-context tid bit by our many meat eating Einstein visitors or can anyone attest here to man boobs from eating too much soy? I eat little soy on a general diet basis so I don't know but I have to ask.

It is true. It is a scientific fact. How it affects each person is substantially different and dependent on a lot of factors . . . consumption, activity level, body weight, etc.

You might want to take another look at soy. Besides the estrogen, a number of other problems happen with soy:

Soy does contain phytoestrogens, which is why it is often recommended for menopausal women to ease their symptoms.
A quick search (keyword: phytoestrogens) revealed a long list of hits touting both benefits and risks of phytoestrogens.

As with so many food-related issues, I think the conservative "Everything in moderation" approach is best.
I ate soy once... and I immediately grew giant boobs. My cup size in quintuple G. /sarcasm
My boyfriend's been veg for over 15 years, and I see no evidence of man-boobs. I've been veg for just under six years, and my boobs are probably the result of eating too much hormone-laden meat and dairy.
Yes, this was taken out of context back in the late 80's to early 90's by the American Dairy Association. Soy contains phytoestrogens which help regulate estrogen levels not increase. However, foods such as chicken and beef both come from female animals and contain very high amounts of estrogen especially if growth induced hormones are added. The American Heart Association recommends 25 grams of soy a day which isn't very much at all.
YES it is. There is NO estrogen in Soy.
Soy has Isoflavones, a Photoestrogen a Mimic of Estrogen.
We here in the U.S.A have Over Soyed our diet. In Asian countires it is used in a different manner more healthy. Mostly fremented( very good for you), not is everything a vegan eats;l Chips, snacks, drinks etc. Eatten in proper moderation & the right way it is wonderful for humans. No breast cancer or man boobs etc.
Good question!!! Theses are the things others need to know.

Slainté(to your health)
Soy isn't great for you to eat as the be all and end all of your diet. Same for anything. However, I know many male vegans/vegetarians, and none of them have moobs. If there is any difference between them and my meat eater friends, it is just that they are overall SLIGHTLY healthier.
There are phyto-estrogens in soy but there is no evidence that it will affect healthy males who don't already have some sort of hormone deficiency. If there was any truth that soy made eunuchs of men, the American Dietitic Association and the FDA would have posted warnings by now.
There is a lot of misinformation about food; always ways, always will be.
Hey Mr. Meat, SSL called you Einstein. Not a bad comparison.

Looks like Mr. Meat is the only one here with referenced facts, but oddly, he won't get best answer will he?

I've heard of the estrogen thing too before but never looked into it, but since you brought it up and links to the accurate answers have been provided, I'll do what any other intelligent person who seeks the truth does, I'll check them out.
soy contains phytoestrogens, if thats what you mean. They can help keep you healthy, but there have been studies shown that they may reduce testosterone in men. but the studies are so mixed, it's not really possible to differentiate which is right or wrong. but there have been no studies saying you'll get 'man-boobs' by eating soy.
You may wish to learn about all the other foods that have such chemicals. Did you realize the Mexican Yam was used to derive many of the pharmaceutical hormones and steroids? Look it up, there was a lot of research done on this, and soybeans were used by some, but that yam had more yield. All foods have various levels of different compounds, it's just that people are only attacking those they are "scared" of for whatever reason.

Of course I always reference Asian use of soy products because not only have they been consuming them for over a thousand years, the current population of the world is over 60% Asians, so that means a significant amount of the world's people consume it regularly. If there were real issues it should be very common to find data for it.

The main issues may be the GMO and processed forms of the food.
