Why do vegetarians have gas more than usual?!

Question: Hey guys, I am not trying to be funny, I am a proud vegetarian myself, but why is it that when I became vegetarian 6 months ago I started to have more gas than usual?? Is there any way to fix this problem?? All advice will help!

Vegetarians and vegans have normal levels of gas, its people that dont that should be worried about thier unusual lack of it.

It is also not specifically caused by fiber.

Its caused by mircroorganisms.

Within the human body at many places there is bacteria, normally they help us with various tasks, its a symbiotic relationship.

Within the our digestive system the bacteria is specifically know as gut flora. there are things in our food that are processed by our gut flora not our digestive system itself.

passing gas is a sign of a fully functioning gut flora.

eating a heavilly acidic deat like most meat consuming diets are often can upset the gut flora and encourage other types of bacteria to inhabit the system rather than the normal benefical types.

excersise is a good way to deal with it, it can get rid of it when your not around people :)
Beans?
More fiber.
However, meat eaters's gas smells worse.
Vegetarians usually eat more vegetables and beans, so it's the fiber.
arent' they high in carbs? gas probs are usually the result of digestive problems but I know it's a mineral thing with vegtables.
Doesn't sound normal to me. Your body is probably expelling the toxins you were eating with the meat, or you are not eating the right balanced diet.
It's totally normal, more so for some people than others. When I have a veg diet or drink beer I get a lot of gas. I don't know the exact reason, and the only suggestion I have is to try Beano. I've never used it, so I don't know if it works. But having gas is not bad for your body, only socially awkward. Sorry!
It's probably the beans.

Are you threatening me, kid?

I like to eat meat.
beans.because it gives us all bad gas.why don't u try tums.
Uhm, well not all completly. But I do belive we are in a food chain. They eat us, we eat them. Just in a more uhm ordinary manner.

I am a vegitatrian tho too.
8mnths.
:)
Vegetarians have more gas because the food that you eat designs a perfect gassy effect in your body. Carbs such as bread, pasta, rice,& crackers are what causes air pockets, which causes us to burp and pass gas. Obviously vegetarians eat non-meat food items, thus making the gas situation more clear. As soon as you can stop eating those carbs, the gas will go away.
From actually eating fiber. Then again, if you ate just as much fiber as a meat eater, you would have the same amount.

It's a weird trade off of having more gas, but having less smelly gas. Your "gas" is made primarily of methane (primarily from plant digestion) and sulfa (primarily from meat digestion). Methane doesn't really have a smell, but sulfa (think of sulfer) has a strong smell. As a vegetarian, your days of SBD's are gone... but you gain an even more interesting ability... to bust *** in a crowd and not have anyone complain of a smell.

As for fixing it, there are over the counter pills like bean-o and gas-x, or you could just kick it old school and excuse yourself to the bathroom to let one out...your choice.
Your body will get used to it. Give it another 3-6 months. Took me a year. You could try a colon cleanse to speed up the process.
Drink peppermint tea and/or chew on anise seeds after eating. Upon waking, drink a large glass of water and stretch/exercise regularly (it'll get the gas out).

Not all vegos have this problem - I don't - and I know enough people who aren't vego who fart a lot (and smell rather bad) so maybe it's got to do with your particular foodstuffs and how they are prepared and possibly with your physiology.

Make sure you always wash your legumes, beans and rice very well before cooking and avoid things like cabbage in large quantities. I have gotten gas from eating packaged beans, TVP and dried falafel mix and I think it had something to do with the way the foods were processed and whether the raw ingredients were washed properly. Foods I make by myself from scratch will rarely cause me or any of my family members gas.
the fiber and simply changing your diet in any significant way may give you gas. when my uncle stopped being a vegetarian the meat did disasterous things to his digestive system. same when my brother ate macaroni and cheese for like 2 weeks straight
