If you choose to be vegetarian because animals are living things than how can you eat plants, aren't they?!
I'm just curiouse because I might because Vegetarian for the health benefits.
But to the ones that don't want to hurt living things I don't quite get because plants are very alive.
It's just a question and I'm not being mean.
Thanx
Answers: living things too.

you have raised a valid point.... but i believe that MOST educated vegetarians are more focus on the economic/environment issues around not eating meat... you can raise 10 tons of corn in the same space adn time it takes to raise 2 cows... so really it is more of a frugality ( with what we have) issue.....
If someone is not eating animals cause they don't want to take a life....I would take into consideration their age, education level and how long and with what intenstiy they have been striving to be a vegetarian.....
i just ate your cat
your nuts
I am pretty sure people these days dont eat meat b/c it can be potentially bad for you in the long run. Most people who live long and healthy talk about how they dont eat red meat.
A plant is a living thing, but it is also not slaughtered in a horrific inhumane manner.
Some of the videos i have seen of slaughter houses would make anyone turn into a vegetarian.
It's a valid question.
I guess it's the fact that plants don't have nervous systems to feel pain like animals do.
Check into the torture that goes into the making of your beef, pork, and chicken, and then you'll see why the fuss.
Good question. Plants don't have a soul and all chickens go to heaven!
Just food for thought...............do plants bleed??
I'm vegan because its healthier. but it does annoy me that people do it for the sake of the animal. I think its a stretch for you to say because plants are living things as well.
but I feel your point either way.
some people do it because of the way THE ANIMAL is treated. most usa beef is PUMPED with steroids and other un healthy hormones. Ironic enough its the same things they are going after ball players for.
they can't put it in their bodies-but you can in yours
Well, plants do not have those big eyes to look into. Only thing I can think of ......
Yes, plants are alive, but most people do not believe they are capable of feeling pain. They don't have brains or blood; it's a somewhat different form of life from animals. I know you are not trying to be mean. People who don't want to eat animals realize that plants are alive, but so are viruses and bacteria, but most will not have a problem with killing those with medication to cure an illness.
and who's to say that a plant is not slaughtered in an inhumane manner...
you have a valid point, but people won't take it seriously because survival is at stake, and hardly anyone wants to think that deeply about the possibilities.
Plant dont have feelings, brains, hearts and emotions
Comparing a plant to an animal is stupid
An animal and a plant are not equal
People only become vegetarians when they find out what slaughter houses are like. Plus, they just can't stand to see something that is "moving and walking" be killed and eaten. To them, it seems like cannibalism. Of course, some people just go vegetarian for the health benefits, which I agree that you should do. Just try not to become anorexic. LOL!
in a way you are correct everything on this planet are living things, plants and animals including you and me. But the difference lies on to be specific blood, heart, etc. animals have only one life once you kill it that's it. While plants with seeds, even their trunks like bananas you can grow another plant, you can propagate, with animals you have to have a male and a female to propagate, that's where lies the difference.
The difference is the level of sentience. Animals appear to be sentient beings - they nurture their young, bond with humans when allowed the time and space, and obviously feel pain. Plants only appear sentient to certain types of people, usually the scientists who study plant behavior [like the music preferences] and psychics [who hear their voices].
Native Americans and other Indigenous People around the world deal with the balance between needing food and needing to respect life by prayers of appreciation and gratitude.
In the final analysis, each of us decides what we will do in this arena...blessings upon you as you make your choice.
Well, think about this. If you do not eat meat, and then u choose to be a vegetarian. That's fine. But if you don't want to eat the plants either, what are you going to starve? What do you eat??
I am not trying to be mean, but if you can't tell the difference between stabbing a dog and stabbing a stalk of broccoli, have a dinner party and try both.
Living isn't the issue.
Feeling pain and having emotions (I would say) is a very good issue.
Well, unless you want to go the anorexic route, there's just no way to live on air, vitamins, and water. I think most vegetarians have qualms about the way animals are treated before they reach the grocery store... and how much of the animal is wasted. One vegetarian friend of mine said she would have no probem eating meat if she were able to hunt it herself, and make sure every part of the animal was used.
I also have some buddhist friends who are primarily vegetarian because they feel it violates the first rule "Do No Harm." However, they will eat meat if invited to someone's home for dinner and meat is being served. The rationale there is the animal is already dead and has been prepared to consume, it would do more harm to reject the hospitality of well-meaning people, than to consume the meal.
And yes, plants are alive, but they don't bleed.
Plants don't have a nervous system, so they can't feel the pain or get hurt.
Many plants still live their full life and u just harvest the fruit (tomatoes, bean, capsicum...many many more). And u do feed them and protect them from pests in return.
Plants r not slaughtered to be eaten.
my reason for being vegetarian is that all animals have as much right to live as i have. its a bit unfair if an animal has to die every time i feel hungry.
I feel like screaming every time I see this question. It has been asked and answered over and over and over and over. For Gaia's sake, do a freaking search before you ask.
I will remind you that eaters kill far more plants than vegetarians do. After all, the animals they eat have to eat something, don't they?
While I am not a vegetarian, one of the main reasons my friends who are have cited have to do with the mass cruelty done to animals in the raising and processing of the animals. They are generally kept in confined spaces and are subjected to unbelievable cruelties. It is not just that they are living.. it is the way the animals are treated. If you treated plants the way they do animals prior to "harvesting" they would be long dead.
Doing a search for vegetarian to stop animal cruelty, you will find many many more websites that go into the atrocities committed on animals in the name of profit.
Animals are made out of meat so they are good to eat. Vegetables are for salads.
Well, you have to eat something. A vegetarian would much rather eat something that is picked from the natural Earth rather that something that can get up and move. And have you ever hear of a pet plant before? If there were such a thing, would Vick go to prison for drowning plants?
to you trailor parks are condos.
You are very right.
well i don't know the answer to that question but it is a very good one and i'd also like to know the answer.
omg!! true!! ur so right...very intresting .....
Yeah they are living things, but I don't think being a vegetarian is healthy, if you do become one, take calcium pills. If you don't become, please don't eat veal, it's baby cow, and they dont allow them to move at all.
I think that's a very good question. notonly that but i hope there aren't any vegetarians wearing leather!!! check your shoes and belts vegans!!
I have to agree with you-- I know alot of "vegetarians who eat fish or chicken, stating that they don't want to eat anything with a "face".
All of the plants we eat were or are alive before we eat them, so wouldn't it be just as bad???
Do vegetarians eat animal crackers?
