Im a teen and I was concidering becoming a vegeterian, i love chicken and meat do you think i can do it?!
Answers: the reason why im concidering this is because i feel its wrong to kill the animals when i think about it really bothers me but i love the taste of chicken and meat also can vegetarians eat lobster,crabs,and shrimp thanks for your help

I am a vegetarian and have been for close to 4 years. I am a guy and I used to like meat. I became a vegetarian for animal rights reasons so I can relate.
Basically, if you don't eat meat for a long time, you start not wanting it. It sounds crazy at first, but I experienced this and many of my veggie and vegan friends relate to it. There are also good vegetarian alternatives to meat. Try MorningStar, Boca, etc. brand items in the frozen section of your supermarket. Trader Joe's is also very vegetarian friendly.
Lastly, people who don't eat chicken, pork, beef: meat in general but do eat seafood are NOT vegetarians. They are called pescetarians. Think about it this way: Are fish vegetables? No! Therefore, they are not vegetarians.
As a teen vegetarian, just make sure you eat healthy and take vitamins for supplement. Don't be picky about which vegetables to eat. They are all good for you.

I found out that the answer to you question is no.
If you eat lobster, crabs, fish, seafood, than you are a Pescarian. Pretty close but a Vegetarian eats no dead animals.
I think you can do it but it will be hard.With all the meat substitutes like Morningstar and Bocca.You won't miss the meat texture.Of course it won't be just like the flavor but they are good.
If you don't like the fact that the animal is being killed for food and that is the reason you are no longer eating meat then I would say that eating seafood would be wrong to eat as well. Maybe you could substitute some of you meals with things other then meat, and just lower the amount that you eat. Then you would at least be saving a few chickens and cows a month. I lve meat as well, but if you decide that you want to stop eating meat make sure that you are getting the nutrients and protein that you need. If you are a teen you body is still growing and you need to take care of it.
I am what is considered either a "pescetarian" or a "pesco-ovo-vegetarian" - I only eat fish, but don't touch any other meat.
I suppose my status of a vegetarian, then, is up for debate, but personally I don't care. I'm not looking for a label; I'm looking for a healthy lifestyle and a balanced diet. Fish is rich in omega-3s and lean protein, and while I'm sure that I could get both from plant sources, it allows me enough flexibility to where I don't have to worry if I'm getting enough nutrients....so long as I get my B-vitamin and iron supplements, of course. :)
But if your goal is to not kill the animals, you might want to give up fish, too. It's your life, and it's up to you. No one (including me or anyone in these forums) can make that decision for you. But definitely do your homework before you make the jump.
It makes it easier that there are so many tasty meat alternatives, too, if you really get a craving for meat. Boca's are the best - I looooooove their Chick'n patties and flame grilled burgers.

It's definitely possible. I loved meat when I was a teenager and I gave it all up when I was 15 for animal rights reasons. I took it one meal at a time - I would think, is it worth it this meal? And it turned out that at every meal the answer was no. After awhile I was ok not eating meat, and I felt better about myself because I was doing what I believed was right. It's important not to be too hard on yourself though. If you cut out some meat, like someone suggested here, that's an important contribution already. It's ok to cheat once in awhile if it helps you to keep on track in the long run. It's like taking a vacation so that you don't burn out.

Im vegetarian and I just decided to completely drop all meat from my diet about a month and a half ago. If you are really passionate about animal rights, its really not all that hard. I used to think I could never do it, but somehow I finally did. Its probably too early in the game to figure out what deficiencies I will suffer from, but I probably should get vegan vitamins, as you probably should too. If you put yourself in the vegetarian mindstate (thinking about what your actually eating) you seem to drop most cravings. As someone else stated, try imitation meats such as Boca, Morningstar, or Gardenburger. Schnucks (or I think Shop and Save) are good places to get them. The Sam's club near us has Boca soyburgers in fairly large quantities for sale, but only the meatless patties, none of the other great stuff such as imitation chicken patties, soydogs, or ground "Boca." The fake meats taste kinda like the real thing, but they have their own "spin" on the flavors, but are delicious none-the-less
To sum it up, to get past the cravings, just buy imitation meats (usually made with soy) which really dont taste all that bad. U'll do fine without the real deal.
If you have to ask can I do it, I can nearly guarantee you you won't be able to do it.
And no, real vegetarians don't eat meat, poultry, or seafood.
Like any other lifestyle change, it all depends on your stock of willpower.

i think its possible, i became vegetarian when i was 12 and of course i liked chicken fingers and hamburgers ect. but i still did it, and it didnt help that my parents are not vegetarian. there are so many meat alternatives out there now, for chicken i looove the yves chicken tender pieces...in a pan with some sauce and veggies...its so good, even my meat eating boyfriend will eat it and hes normally phobic of fake meat stuff. also if you can get a hold milestones veggie burgers...they are awesome, they have egg though so i cant eat them anymore ( turned vegan 2 years ago), but you cant tell the difference between them and the real thing. oo and also real vegetarians cant eat fish, crab ect.
I did it, you don't have to stop all at once, just stop slowly over time, or cut back, rather than feeling pity for animals, think of it as killing yourself, the more animal killing process the more carbon dioxide and other harmful products in the air.All you have to do is cut back really.If you really want something you'll get it, apply it to this.
Yes it is hard thing to do. We don't kill animals but raise them for food.
As a teen, you've got a lot of things going on in your life and a lot of life to enjoy. If you love the taste of chicken and meat and seafood ... enjoy life an don't get caught up with a bunch of crazy diet crap. You are heading down a road that will cause you nothing but grief and make you "weird" with your friends. Google "Flexitarian Diets" and check out the websites if you are really concerned about "killing animals". A flexitarian vegetarian diet is a SANE way to cut back on meat consumption while maintaining a good diet and enjoying life without being a nerd.
well, im a strict vegetarian and it was hard to give up ribs and general tsos chicken, but becoming veg. is the best decision i have ever made. i am a teen like you and i gave up meat, chicken, seafood, shellfish, and gelatin almost a year ago. its great!!!! you can eat mock meat or meat alternatives. but make sure that you are getting the right proteins. my mom gets on my case about it because the rest of my fam are huge meteaters, but i stick to my beliefs and i am so glad to hve found someone that cares about animals just as much as i do.

Yes, you can. I'm a vegan for moral reasons, and it's honestly easier than you might think to stop eating meat. I've really found that there's nothing about meat that I miss. And if I need a meat alternative, there's tons of stuff, including seitan, tofu and quorn. I'm a sushi FIEND, and have found that veggie sushi, even, satisfies my cravings just fine. And no - if you eat lobster, crabs, etc, you're pescetarian....no vegetarian. If you eat anything that once had a nervous system, you're not a vegetarian. (Though pescetarian is a good step in that direction.)
I first considered going vegetarian when I was a teen, too. My mother objected, and I dropped the issue....only to become one in my thirties. Looking back, I wish I'd stuck with it back then.
Do whatever you think is right. (And if it's going veggie, make sure you do it nutritiously.)
