yes this is very true.
Bone char, made from the bones of cows, is used to whiten sugar. This is only done with cane sugar. There are several vegan sugars though. Raw sugar, turbinado, demerara or beet sugar. All these options are vegan.

DEAD ANIMAL BONES?!?! How disgusting...I thought they were filtered through LIVE animal bones.
Who cares...
its not a suprise as on some sugars it does not say vegetarian or vegan on it...
no i didn't no that
Yes, I am aware of it. I use stevia.
ETA: If you google it, you're sure to find it. It's not a secret. Of course, they're using fossils, not fresh slaughterhouse bones.
No.
No, I didn't know that...but I definately don't think it's true. No offense, though.
There are refined cane sugars that don't use bone char. I prefer turbinado sugar or evaporated cane juice crystals anyway. Even before I was veg, I liked the taste of Sugar in the Raw better than white sugar.
And brown sugar is just plain old white sugar with molasses added to it.
untrue
good answer wonderwall
While I didn't know that fact, I am not surprised. Do you have a link to verify your claim?
Do the vegans here use only vegan-sugar or is there no such thing?
