What are some healthy treats to give out at Halloween?!
Answers: I've heard of individually packaged boxes of raisins and pretzels...anything else? Candy is good, but have you seen anything vegan that is also relatively inexpensive, and that kids would like? Any suggestions are greatly appreciated.
There is a list of vegan candies on the web by PETA. It's for Easter, but the candies on there are available year-round.

I haven't seen anything besides raisins and pretzels, but you can buy little toys (from the dollar store) and give those out.
I did that last year..i bought mini rubber balls, plastic spider rings, wax teeth and some candy too.
baby carrots
My mom always gives out baby carrots, drives the mothers nuts, but the kids love the change ;)
Unless you want your house egged, I suggest you stick with the classics. Halloween is no time to be imposing your belief system on little kids.
Is candy corn vegan?
Skip the food all together. You can get Halloween themed pencils, stickers, or temporary tattoos at your local party supply store or sometimes things like this can even be found at the dollar store.
Give them like a quarter or something.
I know if I was given a piece of vegan candy, I would be puzzled...give me a snickers...remember the holiday is for the kids, you don't have to eat it.
that and if candy corn is the only vegan candy, ew! I don't think many kids like candy corn.
Halloween is for kids... kids like candy! I personally think that kids don't like getting anything else... specially raisins and carrots!!
I'd definitely stick with candy. Blow Pops are vegan and they're not expensive. But I guess the idea of the halloween theme stuff like stickers and pencils is good too if you really don't want to give candy.
I agree with Janet. I would buy something like Blow Pops or even the boxes of raisins that you mentioned. It is only one night a year so I cannot imagine that it is that big of a deal to buy something that is not vegan. I mean a lot of people are vegan and their families are not. They still have to buy them things that are not vegan. Actually, that might be good, then you will not be tempted to eat the leftovers! I know that is how I look at it. Maybe that is what I should do this year! lol.
hmm.. many candies are vegan, I belive.. Only the ones that have gelatin or milk aren't.. Try something like twizzlers or Jelly Belly Jelly beans.
hope you can find them wrapped in individual packages. Parent's won't let them have anything not factory sealed, you know.
I would stay away from raisins and pretzels. Kids do not want those for halloween. Also fruit is out...if my son gets an apple for halloween, it is the first thing to be tossed (safety issues). The toys are a good idea...something to play with after the kids are sick of candy.
my kids went to a house last year and they gave out
pencils and stickers and little boxes of
dental floss and tooth paste
I agree with Janet and Trace.
Halloween is for the kiddies and they want candy. If you give them carrots I hope they T.P. the hell out of your house! You're better off not giving out anything if it isn't candy.
As a kid I would throw out the pretzels and the raisins. I agree with the idea to give out pencils or stickers, I always enjoyed that. You could also try some healthy drink, I was always excited when I got a can of soda (however that isn't really healthy)
I guess boxes of raisins are okay but other than that I'm not sure. I'm not sure but while these are surely healthy they may get thrown out because kids want candy. I buy candy that doesn't contain gelatin, etc. like the following: Nerds, Sweetarts, Charms Blowpops, Runts and Sour Patch Kids. I also give out kid friendly animal rights leaflets, etc. to help spread the word about animal suffering. Hey, check out my "seasonal" page for some good halloween tips!
One of the best things I can think of is no sugar added juice boxes. When I was a kid there was a house that always gave out juice boxes. I loved it because it was different and by the time you were half way through trick or treating you could use a juice box. I was pretty disappointed the year she decided not to give out juice.
If you go to BJ's or Costco you can get a lot of boxes for a pretty reasonable price.
Another thing to give out is small toys. The kind you get from the dollar store or party stores are pretty cheap. Throw one of two in the kids bag. Kids like toys, it usually doesn't matter if they are cheap ones.
comic books
Smarties. They're not healthy, but no animal ingredients.
Anything that has fallen off the vine. It is the only moral treat to give out. Even though this pagen holiday is already immoral.
You could do those McD or Burger King coupons for french fries and frozen cokes...not really healthy, but healthier than candy...
