Look, protein deficiency is practically unheard of in industrialized nations. As long as you eat enough food, and you don't eat a junk food diet, you will get ample protein. Really. Fruits don't have much, but eat veggies, grains, beans, and nuts, and you will be FINE.

I swear, I feel like a broken record having to tell people over and over again that protein really isn't a concern. The protein myth is a pernicious one that clearly refuses to die. Sheesh, even vegans get more than they really need.

Pretty much everything you eat has some protein. Vegetarians get theirs from soybeans and other soy products (tofu, tvp, meat analogs,) beans and other legumes (peas, peanuts, lentils, chickpeas,) nuts and seeds, whole grains, fruits and veggies and mushrooms as well as eggs and dairy products if they're still eating those. It's almost unheard of to be protein deficient in the developed world, assuming that one is consuming sufficient calories.

If you are anywhere near a normal healthy eater, you will never have to worry about protein, as the writer above states. In developed countries, Doctors have yet to have seen a case of "Protein deficiency". You should worry more about iron or B12, which you can buy in pill form. The protein thing has been conditioned in the public by the profitable Meat and Dairy Industries in order to sell their product and make share holders happy. They could care less about your health. Money talks.

I've grown up vegetarian, and I find that the best way to get proteins and amino acids is by eating protein bars and combinations of foods. If you eat a serving of beans and corn together, that provides you with the protein as well as other minerals needed for healthy digestion. For protein bars, I like Pemican bars. They come in a variety of flavors, and are free from meat products. I believe they use dairy, so don't eat them if you're vegan.

If you're highly concerned about this, you should see a dietician. They can give you very professional advice, as well as writing detailed plans for you.
