If chocolate is hazardous to a dog....what about carob? is that safe?!

Question: Dogs can have carob. In fact there are a few "treats" on the market with Carob in them.

Carob is considered safe. I wouldn't give it to a dog though, because if they acquire a taste for it they may try harder to steal your chocolate bar.

If you make a lot of chocolate chip cookies and the dog is always finding his way up onto the counter to steal them, make them with carob. At least he won't get seriously ill if he steals one of your carob chip cookies.

Chocolate is very dangerous for dogs. it can make them very sick and if eaten in large amounts (if it got a hold of a bag) can get worse. if it was one little bite don't worry, but if he vomits take him to a vet.

Carob isn't chocolate, so yes it is safe allergy-wise, but why would you want to give it to your dog? Get them used to healthier treats. Since this is under "vegan/vegetarian"-- there are plenty of vegan dog treats around (usually not labeled so- but are) at my job we sell them in a vending machine up front. Dogs can easily develop diabetes, and they don't need the sweet tooth.

why in the world are you feeding your dog chocolate or carob? Dogs are just as happy eating cut up carrots as treats.

Chocolate is no more dangerous to a dog than to a human.

According to the Merck manual, the LD-50 for Hershey bars would be half the weight of the dog. What's the LD-50? It's the dose which would be lethal to half the population eating the poison.

Chocolate contains a lot of fat. A dog can't digest that much chocolate, because it can't keep that much fat down; it's too busy vomiting to actually absorb very much.

Carob has a lot of fat, too, but it costs a lot more, and the taste is terrible.

What you should be feeding your dog is a wide variety of foods. Lamb stew and chicken rice soup are foods that dogs find very appealing, and they satisfy most of the dog's nutritional needs. What's more, you can eat the same foods yourself, saving the labor of cooking two meals.

Wrong section but I'll answer it. Chocolate, coffee, and caffeine contain substances called methylxanthines found in the cocoa seeds. These are also used in some sodas. When dogs ingest these methylxanthines it can cause vomiting and diarrhea, panting, excessive thirst and urination, hyperactivity, abnormal heart rhythm, tremors, seizures, and even death. The same happens to humans if they consume these things in extreme excess. Carb does not contain methylxanthines or any toxic substance. Either way I wouldn't give either to my dog. Carbo has no nutritional value so it's not worth putting into his body.

OMG MY DOG HAD ALOT OF CHOCALATE,. omg DONT DIE ON ME
