Will Jews eat pig meat at all? And, is pork really "dirty" or "unhealthy"?!

Question: I konw they don't eat pork.. what about bacon? And, what's the basic reason why they don't eat it? Is it scientifically a sound reason, are pigs generally more disease prone, more dirty? I completely agree with Jews in eating only Kosher meat, so I'm wondering why no pork? (I'm not Jewish, but still intereted thanks!)

Pork smells and tastes like human flesh. Most human heart valve replacements are with pig heart valves. Pigs are "cousin" species to human. Pigs are possibly more intelligent than chimps. People who have pigs as pets report of a high emotional intelligence that doesn't exist in any other animal except human. Maybe the early Jews noticed that species eatting similar species have a high risk of disease transmission.

On the vegan soapbox; Pigs most likely suffer more at the psychological level than any other animal in the farming industry because they are so highly evolved. This and they are the most farmed meat, globally.

Peace.

Bacon and pork are both from pigs, its eating the pigs thats the problem, not what type of cut from the animal.

i think the rules are something about eating things with 'cloven hooves' and 'chew their cud' or something...

one of the problems is what pigs will eat, they will eat anything, they will even eat poop!

im not sure how it translates to which animals and all that but i do know red and pink meats are much higher in saturated fat than white meats, its much worse for human health.

I seem to recall that in biblical times farming wasn't as sophisticated as in modern times and therefore pigs were more prone to dangerous diseases, which made them more dangerous for human consumption.

Pork, bacon and ham are fancy terms for pig flesh. Just different parts of the pig.

Pigs will eat human feces in times of scarcity, so they were considered unclean back then. Pork can also contain tapeworms if raised in semi-wild conditions.

why dont' you ask in religious section?
how is pork and jews vegetarian and vegan
you can't read?

Ryan is right, some where in the bible there is talk of not eating hoofed animals, also there is the swine factor about pigs being disgusting animals that will just eat garbage and I don't think thats kosher.

In Israel, and thanks to the russian and their fellow religious extremists, pork meat is free sell.

The archeologists have dermined the area of Israel really occupied by most of Jews in history.
It is call the archeology of the pig.
No pork bones found in historical sites on the mountains, along the jordan and a part of the northern coast.

The real reason is revealed only now: man and pig are physiologically compatible and your heart, your liver, you kidneys,... may be replaced by pig "spares"

It may be so because they might get sick while walking in the sun heat after having stuffed themselves with fatty pork meat...

In The Bible in Leviticus Chapter 11, God told the Jews that pigs were "unclean"

Science backs this up, becaues pigs have "Trechina" a kind of worm that can cause alot of problems, and is hard to kill.. Eating pork really is risky.. And pigs will eat garbage, feces, etc

It seems.. that when you examine Leviticus chapter 11, that thte animals are divided clean/unclean based largely on what THEY eat.. animals that are scavengers, carnivres, and eat all kinds of rubbish are the ones that are listed as unclean. The "Clean" ones are animals that graze (cattle) and otherwise eat grains. The birds are divided between scavengers and non-scavengers (scavengers=unclean)

No pork would mean NO pork products (sausage, bacon, gelatin, pepperoni)

I grew up (although not Jewish) adhering to the Leviticus 11 clean/unclean meat, so I've never ate pork or lobster in my life, even though I ate other meats (Beef, chicken) that are listed as "clean" in Leviticus.

Jews don't eat any pork product (i.e. pig meat), bacon is a pork product, therefore Jews don't eat bacon. The simple reason that Jews don't eat pork is because the Torah says not to eat pork. This is the original reason, and this is the reason why religiously observant Jews today maintain this prohibition. For many Jews, pork itself has become a cultural taboo, and they avoid it, despite not keeping kosher (the prohibition on mixing meat and dairy products is less well known, so the same Jew who avoids bacon like the plague, will still sit down and have a steak and cheese sandwich which is every bit as non-kosher as the bacon). Some Reform Jews speculate that the reason pork was prohibited was because back in the days before refridgeration, it could carry trichinosis, which could make you seriously ill. Similarly, it follows that shellfish (shrimp, crab, lobster, etc. - not kosher) in the desert was not the best idea, hence a biblical prohibition on it as well.

Since these health benefits only applied before modern refridgeration and cooking technologies existed, the aforementioned Reform Jews figure that the reason for the prohibition no longer applies, and therefore the prohibition itself no longer applies.

But the truth is, there are lots of laws (including those in the area of "kashrut," the Jewish dietary code) that DON'T have a scientifically sound reason, as you put it. And for those of us who follow the Torah and have been doing so for thousands of years, the "health benefits" are nice, but are purely icing on the cake. We don't eat pork because it's one of the things G-d asks of us, period.

I hope this helps clear things up. If you have any other questions, please don't hesitate to ask.

Also known as a new delicacy of the Jews is Pork and Shellfish bread, known for its aphrodiastiac qualities. Polish Pork Sausages is also a delicacy!
