I can't say that I have eaten or made such a thing. However, here's my best guess on how to make it:
First, make yourself some seitan by following the instructions found in the sources section. I would suggest altering the ingredients a little; use some catchup and some MSG if you are comfortable with it.
Second, it's a matter of marinating. You need something that is a little sweet, a fair bit salty and a bit metallic. My immediate thought is to try a combination of pureed tomato, soy sauce, vinegar (maybe sweet rice vinegar?), a little oil, and brown sugar. Depending on how the seitan came out, you might also need to "tenderize" it by adding some tiny holes so that the marinade came more easily permeate it.
Cooking it is where I'm at a bit of a loss. Since the seitan is pre-cooked, you won't have to put it on for long. If you have a barbeque, you might try putting some foil beneath it, letting it cook for a bit, then taking it off the foil to get that slight bit of charring. If you like that sort of thing.
Keep in mind that I just made this up on the spot, so I really have no clue about proportions or whether or not it will come close to what you are looking for.
To the sanctimonious crowd out there trying to define who is or isn't a vegan, just stop it. You're the reason why many people are embarrassed to be vegetarians or vegans. What you are doing does not help your cause. Be positive about the small steps, and then people might be willing to take more of them.
Ahh if you want the taste of animal blood, why did you become a vegan? I don't think there are any recipes for "rare steak" but if you go to organic food stores and even some regular grocery stores nowadays they have imitation hamburger and sausage..but no steak.
Sorry babe I don't think there is such a thing. Maybe try to experience something new with the Vegan options. I love that you are vegan though.. the earth thanks you~
I suspect there are some sauce that might help you get that flavor back. I'm just not sure what kinds... when I ate meat I liked my steak well done.
Morning star farms has some decent 'steak strips'. They're spiced though and definitely don't seem 'bloody'
"i became vegan for health reasons. i dont have a problem with using animals as a food source"
You aren't a vegan. You are a vegetarian.
There's no fake steak that tastes like steak so don't even bother looking. I mean, you might enjoy the taste but it not steak taste.
just eat a steak!
Sorry, don't know what animal blood tastes like, so can't help you. I know what human blood tastes like (muhahaha) and it's salty and metallic. Is that what you're looking for? The iron-y taste? There are lots of iron compounds that taste like that, like ferric oxide, and there's less risk of iron toxicity by eating ferric iron.
You are welcome to come over if you are in Texas. We are roasting a lamb over a spit as I type...
I'm not sure about the blood taste but this recipe is good if you are really craving that charred steak flavor.
I like to use Portobello
They have a juicy, meaty texture with just the right amount of chew to them. The mushrooms can be seasoned and grilled (broiled, baked, etc) much in the same way as steaks can be, too. To make a vegetarian steak with a mushroom, just clean it carefully, coat it with some olive/vegetable oil and a spice rub (or let it sit in a marinade for 30 minutes), then cook as desired until tender. I cook mushrooms this way frequently, grilling them or letting them cook under the broiler.
