Is it true that vegetarian people are slim?!

Question: No..... Animal fat is not the only fat that makes you fat. Genetics, over eating & poor lifestyle changes are what are responsible for making you "fat".

I've known slim and fit vegetarians, and I've known pudgy, couch potato vegetarians. You can eat a really fatty, unhealthy diet despite being a vegetarian. But, I think vegetarians in general think a little bit more about their health and diet.

Yes, vegetarian people are generally slim. They don't accumulate fats in the bodies and low in cholesterol since vegetables do not contain cholesterol. eat vegetables more often so that you will be slim and sexy....ok?

If they don't eat too much, yes, they are slim and healthy.

not necessarily. there are still other fattening foods a vegetarian can eat. not all vegetarians are slim, it still depends on what you eat.

i used to weigh 11 stone when i was 11-12 i turned vegetarian, I'm 14 and i weigh 7 stone, I'm a boy, and i dont eat any meat what so ever so u cud say alot of vegetarians are slim or skinny

Not necessarily
If a vegetarian were to live mostly on cheese or a vegan mainly on chips then that wouldn't exactly be slimming.
However, on an appropriately planned meat-free diet it is true research has shown that vegetarian groups do tend to have lower rates of obesity, lower risk of high blood pressure, and even longer life expectancy than omnivores.

I knew vegans who were obese and vegans who were anorexic. So it really depends on the person, their metabolism, and how they eat.

no it isn't!! Just because a person is vegetarian doesn't mean that they are really skinny and want to loose weight. Every vegetarian has a different reason for being like they don't like meat or they don't agree with it.

yes, they usually are. if, though, they eat too much sweets, they might be not.

Yes,but not all of them.Vegetarians as a whole tend to weigh less.

yes obcourse nut not all vegetarian are slim..

1) Do not believe the TOO slim part. Dr. McDougal uses an old weight chart not the new & updated one.Which has been done so people will feel "good" about themselves. For me the difference was as much as 30 lbs. less. http://www.drmcdougall.com/
2) IF a Veggie is eating right (Balanced) plant based diet with low fat, low sugar etc. AND getting enough exercise for the calories they are eating they will be slim. Same goes for flesh eater but it is easier for veggies.
3)Now the topper & they have not condition to effect they body using their food properly, Thyroid, Adrenals, Diabetes etc.

Slainté(to your health)

Vegetarian people in general are more concerned about their diet so are slim but there are people who have a bad vegetarian diet who can be obese.

i used to be one, but it affected my health so I had to stop, but you are normally very healthy as a veggie according to my doc. I just had to stop cause I am obviously ABnormal...!

The ones I know at school are a mixture of slim to chunky, and all of them are pallid and have gaunt faces with sunken eyes/dark circles. Someone told me once that those are symptoms of serious vitamin deficiency. Just look at Erykah Badu. She look bad. All that make up make her to look presentable, that is all.

I am very slim and tall and toned. I weigh 136 lbs. and I am 5'10. I eat a variety of fruits, meats and vegetables. I don't have circles under my eyes and my skin is a radiant tan, with healthy red cheeks no blush or makeup. Health shows in the face and skin easily. But no, they are definitely not all skinny, or healthy. I can outwork a vegetarian even when I am tired.

maybe..... but are vegetartians more intellegent....?

My husband is a bit heavy. He started that way and then switched to a vegan diet. He eats perfectly healthy, not a junk food veg by any means (we hardly even eat anything packaged at all) and he does a moderate level of activity. He's maintaining his weight. I know a couple girls that are the same way. In order to LOSE weight on a vegetarian diet you would have to restrict your calories and burn more than you take in. If it's not someone's goal to lose weight on a veg diet then they'll probably stay the same weight as before they went veg.

not true, at all. vegetarians can still pig out on chocolate cake and cheese sticks. Perhaps vegans, with their very limited diet, stay pretty slim though. i think the biggest correlation would be that most vegetarians care about their health. so, they tend to be more physically fit. dont forget thot, that just because someone's slim doesnt mean they are healthy. they could have clogged arteries, etc. i think i used to learn that your body is 30% genes and 70% lifestyle. thats not an exact figure or anything tho. lol.

A lot of vegetarians are thin, but that doesn't mean they all are. Vegetarians who eat a lot of dairy to make up for the lack of meat in their diet actually might gain weight, while vegetarians who eat more plant-based foods and less dairy are likely to lose or maintain weight.
When I first became a vegetarian, I started eating a lot of dairy. After a while, though, I started eating a diet made up of plant foods and just a tiny bit of dairy, and I lost weight until I got everything balanced out.

Not neccesarily. Vegitarian diets have helped many people loose weight but it also helps people maintain weight. I myself lost 20 lbs the first year gained 10 lbs the second and haven't lost an ounce in the other three years.

not always, it depends on the person

not always

There are fat vegetarians, skinny vegetarians and muscular vegetarians just like anybody else. It really depends on your eating/exercise habits, individual metabolism and general health.

I am vegetarian, fat and muscular, kind of like a wrestler; definitely not skinny. I'm basically healthy, but I have to admit I like food more than exercise. But I'm 50 years old and I was thin when I first became vegetarian at 27.

perhaps too slim

here is an interesting article about a vegan crashing on the diet

Just intellectually "slim", I've found.
