Considering vegetarians are so sickly looking, why do they believe it's so healthy?!

Question: Sickly looking? Gee, thanks. I don't consider myself sickly, and yes, I am a vegetarian. Actually, I have a darker skin tone than most caucasions, I'm not pale. I've always been on the darker side of light, and I'm still not pale. And I'm not skinny, either. I'm actually 30 pounds overweight and yet I'm a vegetarian. You don't have to be sickly to become a vegetarian. I know plenty of healthy, normal sized vegetarians. I've only met one sickly vegetarian in my life, and she would be tiny even if she ate meat.

I'm not a vegi- but know a lot and strongly disagree- they're healthier looking.

I think vegetarians look fine. Definitely less heavy, but that may be untrue, too.

does she look sickly to you?

I think it's because vegan foods don't have the hormones and chemicals that "normal" processed foods do. It's said that America's obesity problem goes back to foods full of processed sugars and refined carbs that don't do anything productive for our bodies.

I think the stereotype of vegetarians is that they are sickly-looking, but the reality is pretty different. There is not much difference in appearance between vegetarians and others. I know vegetarians who are overweight and those who are thin, just as is the case with others. I know vegetarians with bad skin, and those with good skin. A lot of it probably has to do with what kinds of vegetarian diet they keep. If they live on vegetarian junk food, they will look sickly. If they eat healthy (as is the case for those who do eat meat, but eat healthy), they will look healthy.

Not all are, but I have known some who just stop eating all animal products, even dairy, and do NOT learn how to get enough protein in their diet. They live on bread and rice and pasta, and ignore the foods that would provide the nutrients they really need. I have no respect for these people, as they generally think they are better than others because the are "vegetarians" or "vegans". BUT, they neglect to learn how to eat to stay healthy.

Sorry I haven't seen every vegetarians in the world but from what I have seen not all look healthy but definitely not all look sickly. I'd say no more or less than those who eat meat.

I've been wondering about that too... me, wife and kids are omnivores and hardly get sick.. my wife's friend, and her family are vegans and the kids seem lethargic and are sickly. Their child is 2 years older than my daughter yet my daughter is taller, heavier and more energetic. Theirs is very thin, small or her age and tires easily. Maybe they are doing it wrong? Go figure..

What I do observe about vegans is that alot seem too "preachy" about their lifestyle choice..

i'm a vegetarian
do i look sickly to u?

dont think so
as long as u eat right u wont look sickly
the vegetarians u see probably eat sugar and toast all day instead of fruits, vegies, nuts, whole grain, etc

That is a total stereotype. I have been a vegetarian since age 4. I am almost 14 now and I am totally healthy. I eat a normal, well balanced, nutritional diet, I run track, and am growing normally. Being a vegetarian is healthier, if you do it right.

Because the "sickly looking" thing isn't true.

I could say all meat eaters have red eyes and fangs. It doesn't make it a fact.

Well, that's about all the time I'm going to waste on that.

Okay, now pick an idiot who agrees with you and give that person the best answer.

This statement/question is very ignorant.

Vegetarians with balanced diets don't look sickly. As a matter of fact, I've never seen a sickly vegetarian.

Take a look at the women in California (vegetarianism is huge in California). Now look at women in the south (diets mostly based on meat). There is a huge difference. The women in the south look very unhealthy. Not to mention, obese.

maybe that person is eating the wrong food, i dont mean meat but not getting enough protein and vitimains. If you do not eat right no matter if your vegan or not your gonna look sick..

Are meat eaters healthy? Because all i see is fat sticking out of their pants, Most of America eats meat and most of America is FAT

My, what a cunningly trollish question.

It's a form of denial ... it really is. They isolate themselves within a veggie-head world .. it's a form of brainwashing .... anything contrary to what they believe is filtered out. Science is "dismissed" as some kind of "meat eating conspiracy". There's a compulsivity ... an obsession for reading ingredients, foraging for veg*n foods, etc. etc. .....

Oh really? This is me between two meat-eating friends?

Who looks healthy here?

Oh yes you have met every vegetarian on this earth and they are all sickly looking. Go back to your bridge troll! Go choke on a cow!

That is not entirely true. And please don't that all vegetarians are sickly looking. There are some vegetarians who look bad because they don't get enough protein and don't take time to plan their diet. But, a well planned out vegetarian diet is actually very healthy. I hope I helped.

Do you know ALL vegetarians? If not, you have no basis to make the generalization that they are all sickly looking. I, for one, am not sickly, scrawny, pale, pasty, or any of the other things that you people seem to think vegetarians are. I rarely get sick, I compete in endurance sports and I regularly get compliments on my skin from complete strangers. I find it hard to believe that if I was sickly looking that complete strangers would feel compelled to tell me how beautiful and glowing my skin is!

Vegetarians have less heart disease, obesity, diabetes, hypertension, elevated cholesterol, prostate cancer, breast cancer, colon cancer and kidney disease and we live 6-10 years longer. THAT might be a little clue as to why we believe it's healthy!

Funny, because when I meet ppl for the first time, they always ask me my 'secret' for being in such great shape & looking so healthy. The answer "I'm vegan".

FACTS tell us that a vegetarian diet is healthy. Just because you know a few vegetarians (presumably) that you don't think look healthy does not make it so. Maybe you should look into something before you just go blowing it off. Research PROVES a vegetarian diet is the healthiest diet of all.

i'm a vegetarian, and i'm healthy, i don't look sick.
