Vegans...how do you curb your appetites when you are so hungry that you want to reach for unhealthy snacks?!
Answers: Sometimes I get so hungry that I reach for carbs or sweets. What is healthy and satisfies your hunger? I know of many people who changed from being vegans because the options became to complicated to keep up with. Any suggestions so that I can stay away from the junky-stuff?
I make shakes out of tofu and fruit! they really fill me up.

One of my favorite snacks is pumpkin seeds in the shell. I eat them slower than most other snacks because of the labor of getting them out of the shell. And they're a good source of protein and other good stuff. Hummus and carrot or celery sticks are good, too. Eating a good breakfast really does cut down on the urge to snack; I find that when I have scrambled tofu for breakfast I sail right through til lunch.
Yea, the options that open up when you break the habit of making meat the center of every meal are exciting. But what's so complicated?
The reason you want to reach for carbs or sweets is... that's what we're designed to eat - just keep it natural(fruit), and you can eat as much of it as you want, and be satisfied and healthy.
Between meals I eat a lot of fruit. It doesn't sound satisfying, but 3 bananas or pears do fill you up, but doesn't wear you out.
Bananas are a great thing for sticking with a vegan diet....especially in the beginning. They add good carbs, which should make up 70% of a human's diet.
Nuts, nuts and nuts.
Reach for foods with a high fiber content. Fiber keeps you from being hungry and tired later.
A Granny Smith Green Apple is my 11 AM snack everyday and it gets me through from breakfast at 7 AM to lunch at 1 PM.

I usually go for fruit... mostly apples, since you can eat them in a zillion different ways (fresh, microwaved, sugared...). Nuts are good too, and in the summertime I go for tomatoes. I love snacking on tomatoes.
